Trivia

edit

Unless someone objects I'm going to take the existing "Trivia" section (which has been flagged for editing for a couple of years now) and make a brief "Production" paragraph out of it. It'll still be unsourced but will be less awful than the existing section.Jgoulden (talk) 20:00, 2 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

https://catalog.afi.com/Catalog/moviedetails/56017 has some more facts and sources that could be used. This article as is is missing some vital details of a well remembered movie - like box office, production costs, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FCC8:A552:8200:104C:ADD9:F619:DAA6 (talk) 14:00, 18 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

gumball rally made 5,800,000 at the box office according to the above. In contrast, Cannonball! made only 1,500,000. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FCC8:A552:8200:104C:ADD9:F619:DAA6 (talk) 14:17, 18 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ferrari Daytona?

edit

The Ferrari that Raul Julia's character drives, wasn't it an especially rare model or something? This ought to be mentioned in the article. --Ragemanchoo (talk) 02:11, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Really? The SOUND of two of the cars' engines, reproduced faithfully, is enough reason to watch the movie? I might suggest the writer of this article MIGHT be a bit too close to his subject. The lead paragraph should be taken out behind the woodshed and shot

The comment about the Ferrari Daytona deserves some explanation. The Daytona was produced in Coupe and Convertible forms by the Ferrari factory. Somewhere between 121 and 126 convertibles were produced by the factory. However, the value of the convertibles and relative rarity made some owners of coupes have their cars converted to convertibles. Some were done very professionally and others less so but the total number modified is unknown.

As far as the sounds of the Cobra 427 and the Ferrari Daytona V12 being worth watching the movie - to a true car nut this is a 100% accurate statement. The V12 is like no other engine; velvety smooth and amazingly powerful. Hearing the 6 dual Weber carburetors sucking in great gobs of air as the car accelerates has few equals as far as exilirating sounds go. Similarily the 427 Ford V8 in the Cobra used either a single 4 barrel, 2 - 4 barrels or 4 Weber carbs - which produces a similar mechanical symphony as the Ferrari although in a different key. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.57.181.125 (talk) 23:07, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mercedes

The car in the film is a 190SL not a 300SL —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.5.171 (talk) 21:07, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

this page says its a 300.. http://www.notcot.com/archives/2012/02/mercedes-sl-history-in — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.186.86.53 (talk) 12:54, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Pictures like at imcdb.org clearly show the round rear of a Mercedes-Benz_300_SL#Roadster, not that of a Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. Matthead (talk) 01:05, 21 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rolls Royce demise

edit

It is stated that the Rolls Royce's brakes failed, causing it to roll backwards down the hill and crash. Would it be more accurate to cite the transmission as failing, popping out of Park?
