Literal translation of title

edit

I have removed another literal translation of this game's title, and I would like to explain my reasoning. This game's official English title is itself a literal translation. More specifically, it is one of several possible accurate, literal translations into English. Not all of them need to be on this page. The word being contested is 夢幻. I believe everyone can agree that visions, fantasy, phantoms, illusions, dreams, etc., all possible interpretations of this Japanese word, are related concepts that do not require much imagination to link together.

Substituting the game's official translation with another option equivalent in meaning is not giving new information to an English reader who can't read the original Japanese.

A very good example of a case where literal translation is appropriate is The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The Japanese title, "Triforce of the Gods," is clearly completely different in meaning, and worth noting not only on this merit alone, but as evidence of localization policy at the time.

Changes to Phantom Hourglass's English translation have thus far been exercises in fine-tuning or rephrasing a translation already literal and correct. I don't believe this is appropriate on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iriomote (talkcontribs) 23:52, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Introduction Edit

edit

I edited the introduction to the article based on previous discussion that has taken place in WikiProject Video Games. The previous introduction summarized the entire plot of the video game, which, as discussed at the link above, is not supposed to happen. Icefall5 (talk) 20:50, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Four Swords DS

edit

Hey I was wondering why "Four Swords DS" redirects here. I don't know much about redirection, so I can't fix it, but this is by no means Four Swords DS.68.202.23.224 (talk) 21:02, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I looked this up, and it is because the developers said "We're thinking of bringing Zelda: Four Swords to the DS". Thus, this is "Four Swords DS" Blake (Talk·Edits) 21:24, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
