Tarantino?

edit

Lots of promotional material for this movie, including some links from this page, say Tarantino is producing. But the infobox says nothing. Is there an official source for these things? User:Glenn Willen (Talk) 01:18, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

He is "presenting" and executive producing to lend his name to the film, that is the extent of his involvement. As for the infobox, policy is to not include executive producers. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:24, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I wonder what "presenting" means, is there a more official title for that? The trailer also mentions he "presents" the movie. --82.170.113.123 (talk) 18:22, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's just a way of getting more attention to something that it otherwise wouldn't have. So something might be "Steven Spielberg presents..." when he didn't really have anything to do with it, but he is lending his name to help it do a little bit better. RZA is friends with Tarantino so Tarantino lends his name to the film, and given the style evident in the trailer a lot of people believe it is actually a Tarantino film. And so more people will go see it purely based on that. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 19:33, 2 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Premise

edit

"In nineteenth century China, The Blacksmith (RZA) is forced to create elaborate weapons for a small village is forced to join both warriors and assassins to protect their community and humiliate a traitor who threatens to destroy them all." The sentence sounds weird. The phrase "...is forced to..." is in there twice and doesn't make any sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.169.123.50 (talk) 20:57, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I tried to change it up a bit, there isnt much premise to work with at the moment. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 22:41, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Frank Dukes

edit

Frank Dukes is the guy who has produced some of the music for the film soundtrack, and I believe he deserves an article, given that he's had extensive work in the field of music (see Google search for "Frank Dukes" in the English Wikipedia).

Budget and Box Office

edit

You appear to be in the process of trying to alter the figures involved in the film because you want it to be a success, with the comment "Makes a big difference by telling if it's a box office failure or not.)" and adding a 4th digit to the box office gross, making it 19.88 instead of 19.8 and picking a different BO source that has a slightly higher total gross than BOM. You do not trust BOM for the Box Office gross but you trust it for the budget because that works into making the gross higher and the budget lower, pretending it was a success. The given sources for the budget that I have re-added say 20, including one that actually has RZA, the director and man in charge of the budget, saying about 20 million. BOM has no special ability to override the director who has insider knowledge of his budget, I'll indulge the 4th figure on the gross, even if it is a blatant attempt to make its box office seem marginally higher, media sources never report to them to the 4th digit. I'll be glad to take this review. In the next few days, I'll do a close readthrough, noting here any issues I can't immediately fix myself, and then follow with the criteria checklist. Thanks in advance for your work on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 06:00, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Initial readthrough

edit

On first pass, this article seems very well done: clear, well sourced, and covering major aspects. I've made a few copyedits as I went, so please doublecheck me to make sure I didn't accidentally introduce any errors. My small concerns so far are below. -- Khazar2 (talk) 09:24, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • "While fighting Jack, Poison Dagger is crushed between large moving gears." -- how does this fight start, and what are these gears? the transition to the brothel fight to this is rather sudden.
  • "The character was partly inspired by RZA's late cousin Ol' Dirty Bastard.[13][14] Crowe was inspired by Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry (1971) and The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)" --these two sentences are made slightly confusing by using "inspired" in two different ways in subsequent sentences. Perhaps the second could be something like "Crowe based his performance in part on..."
  • "To compensate for time lost to filming issues, " -- what does "filming issues" mean here?
  • "some scenes were filmed in a single take" -- this source doesn't appear to say that scenes were filmed in a single take, just that they were filmed rapidly, inspired by an ODB story about his doing a song in one take
  • I based the info off of this part - " So I know we're out of time, but for today you might have to go one-take, ODB-style.' Now of course Russell's a master anyway and he'll do it in one take. But I think telling him that story at that time helped because we were about eight hours late and it helped us capture a lot of things in that one day that it would have taken us two days to do." Darkwarriorblake (talk) 22:41, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • "RZA's sandpaper-like iron fists" -- surely RZA wasn't really given iron prop fists for this scene? What was the prop made out of?
  • "As of February 2013, The Man with the Iron Fists has earned $15,634,090 from North America and $4,087,155 from markets elsewhere, for a worldwide total of approximately $19,886,863" -- a different number is given in the lead; these need to be reconciled.
  • Sorted this, having issues with a user who wants to use a specific source that gives it such a minor financial boost so he can claim it made back its budget. Can't be bothered having another fight over it with him. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 16:49, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • "The Man with the Iron Fists is scheduled for release" -- needs to be updated if this happened on schedule yesterday.
  • Not necessary for GA, but it seems like more images could be easily added to the article: main cast members, Tarantino or Roth, ODB, etc. An image of RZA would be particularly good; his page has a number that seem to have appropriate permissions.

Thanks for reviewing this, I am on a work training thing until Friday evening so I won't be able to tackle these until then as the internet access up here is terrible, I will get to them ASAP. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 23:38, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Critical Reception

edit

The tomatometer and average rating on rottentomatoes are not the same thing, as this article from Rottentomatoes' parent company states. It just happens that they happen to be basically the same number in the case of this movie; the 49% and the 5 out of 10 mean different things. CBAnaesthesia (talk) 15:28, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

THe sentence states the percentage, then the average rating. The changes being made are not clarifying anything and are unnecessary, the phrasing is taken from the article on Prometheus which is on its wa y to becoming a featured article, so I can assure you, you are the only person having a problem with it.   Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Charliehdb (talk) 04:45, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
