Map of the journey

edit
  Resolved

The caption beneath the map of the journey is incorrect; Alberto Granado did not travel to Venezuela and Miami, Guevara went to these two final destinations alone. This caption should be revised to reflect this.--137.191.240.200 (talk) 16:55, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Editions

edit

the current version of the article mentioned a 2003 English translation published by Ocean Press, but did not say an English translation had been previously published in the 1990s - I noticed on Amazon.com that there is listed a 1995 or 1996 translation published by Verso. and in comments there, a customer mentions that it is a different translation . Also there was later another Spanish edition, a movie tie-in. I am not familiar with this subject, and the versions and titles and dates are rather confusing. It would be great if someone more knowledgeable about the publishing history of this work could take a look at this. Wichienmaat (talkcontribs) 09:00, 30 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

What make and model was the bicycle?

edit

Looking at the photo I cannot see any brand or model markings. Are these details known? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.38.208.30 (talk) 15:22, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

The bike is a 1939 Norton 500. A British made motorcycle. Its written in the article and is widely reported. ValenShephard (talk) 05:22, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Spanish title

edit

I was expecting to find the original Spanish title in this article, but missed it. Can somebody who knows this, add it? Thanks Joost 99 (talk) 20:05, 13 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I seem to recall it's Diarios de Motocicleta, but that needs checking. This article needs a good deal of work, and for some reason there isn't a link to any Spanish WP article; such an article could have been helpful as a guideline. 83.254.154.164 (talk) 10:52, 23 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
You are correct the original Spanish title for The Motorcycle Diaries is in fact 'Diarios de Motocicleta'. [1] Buff98 (talk) 00:21, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Woman Dying of Tuberculosis

edit

Near the end of the "Expedition" section is a note about Guevara "leaving appalled by the failings of the public health system" after seeing a woman dying of tuberculosis. The quote then given is from the section of the book titled "la gioconda's smile." However, the section of the book from which the quote was pulled describes the patient as "an old woman with asthma"; tuberculosis is not mentioned at all. Is this a mistake, or is asthma here a euphemism for tuberculosis, or what?Apha (talk) 17:10, 11 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Latin America" vs "Hispanic-America"

edit

The last paragraph of the "Expedition" section refers to both "Latin America" and "Hispanic-America" as being the area that Guevara considered to not be separate nations. But, going by the corresponding WP articles, these are not the same area:

  • Latin America = Romance languages spoken,
  • Hispanic America = Spanish spoken.

I am not expert enough to resolve this. FrankSier (talk) 12:17, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
