This film is a period adventure drama-thriller. One editor is insisting that the "adventure" and "thriller" elements are less important than the "period" and "drama" elements. But all four parts are equally important, so removing them from the lead is not ok. Thanks! 2A02:C7F:6E64:1C00:349C:4F72:A3B3:4F13 (talk) 12:05, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Per WP:FILMLEAD, only the "primary genre or subgenre" should be included in the lead. Multiple genres should not be used, especially since no sources describe the film as a "period adventure drama-thriller film". When I went through the sources, "drama" was most often used, but I don't have a strong opinion, and so if you think "adventure" or "thriller" should be used instead of drama, then that is fine with me, as long as we stick to one. Other genres can be discussed outside of the lead. – wallyfromdilbert (talk) 15:16, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
"Period adventure drama-thriller" is the genre. None of the that is unimportant. WP:IGNORE clearly applies here. Thanks. 2A02:C7F:6E64:1C00:841A:77E6:DFCE:FEBE (talk) 16:15, 25 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Where are you getting that genre? --SubSeven (talk) 16:49, 25 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@SubSeven: Actually the best description of its genre is "western", per these sources:[1][2][3][4]. As an aside, the vast majority of classic westerns would be described as "period adventure drama-thrillers" if the term "western" for the genre did not exist. Yes, either "western" or ""period adventure drama-thriller" are appropriate here. At the very least, this is obviously an adventure film, and the New York Times (among others) lists Adventure, Drama and Thriller. 2A02:C7F:6E64:1C00:A526:305A:87FC:D130 (talk) 23:16, 24 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
'Western' is reasonable. I did not see 'period adventure drama-thriller' in any of those sources. --SubSeven (talk) 00:22, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, we're agreed on "western" then. But some sources for the alternative include the New York Times, NME, rogerebert.com, Microsoft and many more. Also, Wallyfromdilbert's argument falls apart when you see that many other reliable sources call it an adventure drama/thriller, and many others simply call it a thriller. So, "period drama" doesn't begin to cover it. The whole point of Wikipedia is to piece together information from various reliable sources. 2A02:C7F:6E64:1C00:C081:5B20:5971:D11C (talk) 11:24, 25 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I changed the genre to Western in the lede but left "thriller drama film" in the categorization.[5] I used a capital W per the articles Unforgiven and The Searchers. When I noticed that the lede of Unforgiven calls that film a "revisionist Western" I was tempted to use that subgenre in describing The Nightingale but the sourcing for it is somewhat weak; Guy Lodge in Variety described it as "a feat of seething revisionist history fashioned as revisionist western" [6]. I also came across the article Meat pie Western, a term I don't recall ever hearing before. Mathew5000 (talk) 01:16, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't think this fits the criteria of revisionist Western. Meat pie Western? Absolutely. 2A02:C7F:6E64:1C00:B0FA:2A:9A16:98F8 (talk) 10:59, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
