Incorrect IMDb listing has confused Mary Bell with Mary Hayley Bell

edit

It should be noted that, for a number of years, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has been carrying an incorrect credit for English writer Mary Hayley Bell, who was married to John Mills for 64 years. They were the parents of Juliet Mills and Hayley Mills. The incorrect credit is The Shrike (film). She is listed within IMDb here, billed 17th in the cast listings. That credit actually belongs to the American actress Mary Bell who also appeared in the Broadway version of the play and whose photograph appears in Wikimedia Commons. The same photo is appended to Wikipedia's entry for The Shrike (play).

As of this writing, the section header "Stage/film roles" in Wikipedia's entry for Mary Hayley Bell credits her with appearing on Broadway in 1928, when she was 17 years old, and in 1935, although she lived with her parents in Hong Kong, Tientsin and Singapore until 1939. There is no indication that Mary Hayley Bell, whose acting roles were confined to a handful of uncredited parts in England, ever performed in the U.S. There are two separate listings for the American actress Mary Bell in IMDb [here and here] as well as in the Internet Broadway Database (IBDb) [here and here]. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 00:14, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

The billing of four cast members differs in opening credits and closing credits

edit

It may be also noted that, in the film's opening credits, Martin Newman is billed 10th, Herbie Faye 11th, Richard Benedict 12th and Mary Bell 13th. Below is a reproduction of the form in which the cast members are listed in the opening credits:

In the closing credits, however, Richard Benedict is billed 10th, Mary Bell 11th, Martin Newman 12th and Herbie Faye 13th. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 02:34, 21 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
