I couldn't find much on The Woodcutter and the Trees. I think it might not be the correct title. Wikipedia already has this article The Honest Woodman which I think might be the same thing. AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 18:56, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
After looking at Aesop's Fables I see that it is one of the stories; however, it still doesn't seem to have a great deal of notability. AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 18:59, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Names for Aesop's fables are notoriously difficult to fix because they weren't given titles in the original Greek. The main stories behind this one are variously titled "Zeus and the Oak Trees", "The Axe and the Trees" and, in Caxton, "Of the man and of the wood", and that's without reckoning in the alternative Greek version, "The Woodcutters and the Pine", and the (untitled) West Asian version. If you click on others in the list under Aesop's Fables, you'll find as confusing an array of titles for some. The trick is to find a title broad enough to cover the various versions but easy enough to spot when looking through someone else's title list. On the other hand, the fact that this story is a fable by Aesop (and discussed in books of reference), not to mention the fact that it was included by Caxton in his collection of the fables, ought to have alerted you to the fact that the story is notable. But I'm grateful that you admitted your mistake so quickly and reversed your decision. I wish other people on WP were as generous spirited! Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 20:41, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yea this is definitely something that I do not have expertise in so I will leave it alone. I trust that it is notable. AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 00:32, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
The Bulgarian tale
editSo where does the tale here fit on this page? Because it certainly looks like a variation. Omeganian (talk) 15:08, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- It does not without an authorative source establishing a connection. The ban on WP:OR is a core policy. This is an encyclopedia, not a collection of anecdotal and amateur theorisation. Sweetpool50 (talk) 15:32, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
