Vishnumurthy

I am bit confused by the article take on this spirit. According to the article, this spirit originated in Tulu regions then migrated to Malayala regions. However, I have read that(unfortunately, I have lost the link and no matter of googling I was able to get back it) and this according to Tulu views, the spirit in fact a import to Tulu region from Malayala region. I wonder if somebody could cross check it.

Found the article. From the article;

Vishnumurty is a popular spirit in the southern part of the district in the areas adjoining the state of Kerala. The Vishnumurthy cult is imported from the Malayalam speaking area of the neighbouring states.

Split

Arbitrary heading

I disagree on the history by linking it to Parasurama. A few years ago, an article written by a historian in a news paper stated about 300 years ago Kolathiri raja desired to have an attakkali in Kolathu Nadu to match the Krishnanaattam and Ramanaattam in other princely states. He entrusted the task to a Kavi (Poet) of Tellecherry. He gathered information about prevailing thira done in an unsystematic manner by tribals in rural villages, created the theyyam and thottam paatu as seen today and staged about 30 theyyams before the Maharaja. "Marathakkad sri iver..." repetition

In some of the sub-sections in section "Muthappan Anthithir" there is the following phrase repeated: "Marathakkad sri iver paradevatha kshethram,kuppam,taliparamba on makaram 25 to makaram 28." This makes no sense to me, and repeated the way it is it does not appear to be a valid edit. But I'm way out of my knowledge zone here, so maybe there's something I'm missing here? This article is not anybody's personal page

I have added some photos of Theyyam to this article. But all were fully reverted without mention any reason in this talk page. This is discouraging photographers like me to upload photos in the Wikimedia. Shagil Kannur (talk) 10:25, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

You can add photos at Wikimedia Commons. This article already has far too many photographs but it also has a link to Commons, so anything relevant added and categorised correctly there can be viewed by people who visit this article. - Sitush (talk) 13:17, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

Theyyam and Tira are different

'Theyyam is also known as Kaḷiyāṭṭaṁ or Tiṟa '

According to geographical locations and rituals theyyam and thira different. Theyyam is mostly a northern malabar thing while tira is of south malabar. In palakkad similar thing is called 'poothanum thirayum' which is nor theyyam nor tira Afv12e (talk) 07:04, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
