If they are 36 in 2016 then how were they born in 1979?

There are some continuity errors that need to be addressed. The first episode, from what I recall, says they were in 1979, but the children were all turning 36 which means the characters must have been 36 at the time of filming the pilot which I presume was 2015. Plot summary

Plot summary emphasizes that the series is about the triplets, but episodes have extensive scenes with just Jack and Rebecca. How can we change this to reflect that the series revolves around the entire Pearson family? Tried to add a line of info to resolve this and it was taken down (kindly). So what is there to do? Hi... that revert was me. If you want to limit your change to just the section that says it focuses on the three siblings' lives, I think that's fine. Some of your other edits had grammar errors so I just reverted the entire edit. Lonnie Chavis' recurring role as young Randall

I posted this elsewhere, but wanted to post it here for anyone in doubt. Lonnie Chavis, in portraying young Randall, cannot be credited as a series regular because he is a series regular on another show, and his contract stipulates that he cannot be a series regular in more than one show at a time. Therefore, Lonnie Chavis is only in a recurring role, even though he appears in just about every episode. If anyone has questions on this, please post here. What this series is about

(I'm adding this because when I first read the article, I couldn't really imagine what the series was about, and here is what would have helped me get a better sense of it)

It's a deeply empathic multi-perspective portrayal of several generations of a family in which everybody is doing the best they can to deal with the complexities of life. Lots of imperfect human beings modeling secure attachment to a pretty high degree, including good boundaries. Clear differentiation between shame and guilt. How relevant is "conceived at Froggy's, a bar..."???

I have been trying to fix the first paragraph of the series overview because I do not think it is relevant nor is it good style to put in the series overview that the triplets were conceived at Froggy's, a bar in Pittsburgh. One anonymous person put that back in (and was not the first to keep putting it back in) because the anonymous person thought it was relevant that they were conceived in Pittsburgh, so I have mentioned when describing flashback scenes that most occur in Pittsburgh, where the "Big Three" were conceived, born, and raised. I don't think it's either relevant or good style for people to insist on putting in that they were conceived at some bar named "Froggy's". I rewrote this entire section. I felt that there was too much emphasis on detailed, specific information. Not only the time and place of the triplets' conception, but also the very specific dates and ages of the Big Three, which after two years of scattered storytelling are inherently nonspecific. Comedy-drama? Or just drama?

Some contributors (many anonymous) think this show is a comedy-drama. Others have disagreed, that it is just "drama" (or family drama)—I tend to agree; this is not a light-hearted show.

• strong oppose - This is not something to evaluate during a spike in the page's popularity due to the new season just starting. This leads to error (mostly due to fans over-participating in move discussions) and over-reliance on temporary boost in page views. I do not see this being such a clear primary topic if one evaluates it from, say, ten years in the future (WP:10YEARTEST). • Comment: This will be a rather long comment, so please bear with me. I do have a few points I believe are worth making. Aside from the increased views issues, there is no way to tell for sure that this show will fade into obscurity or oblivion in 10 years. I have read public mentions of this show dubbing it this generation's equivalent or answer to "Friends", which is more popular now with a new generation of viewers than it ever may have been when it originally aired. And the main reason that NBC gave this show a 3 season renewal earlier this year is because of their faith in the story that has been mapped out thus far. Also, there is no definitive indication that the series will conclude with the sixth season. Dan Fogelman has been quoted as saying he has a definitive plan, and the show will have an end date at some point, that he had mapped out six seasons initially, but would be open to continuing the show beyond that if he, the cast and crew, and NBC network executives felt there was more to the story of the characters that needed to be told. For these reasons, along with others that I won't go into at present, the suggestion that the show could or almost certaily will fade into obscurity or oblivion in a decade to me is a notion that smacks of crystal balling, which Wikipedia policy advises against. Our task is not to estimate or conjecture when the show will end, and is even more so to not speculate on when it will no longer be relevant. The fact of the matter is that it is relevant now, and if this show and its' associated pages currently have more page views than any other "This Is Us" page on Wikipedia, then renaming the page for at least the duration of the show's run and relevancy, however long that actually winds up being, is an idea I absolutely and unequivocally support. --Jgstokes (talk) 02:27, 9 October 2019 (UTC)

Chris Geere as Philip

Chris Geere portrays Kate's second husband, Philip. Although he was a recurring character in season 5, during tonight's season 6 premiere, he was listed with the main cast, just before the actors portraying the younger counterparts of the 3 Pearson siblings.
