Pronouncing Thornbury

edit

I had a look around online, and I couldn't find anything which states that Thornbury is pronounced with a hard T. Moreover, living in the area for about a decade, and speaking to others, no one else has ever heard this either. Maybe it's worthwhile changing the pronunciation on the article to one (seemingly everyone except wiki editor) uses? Seems like it may just be a joke 🙃 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.175.238.204 (talk) 02:01, 16 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

As a Melbourne resident myself, I have never heard the pronunciation of Thornbury this article uses. The "Th" in Thornbury is pronounced like /θ/, or the "th" in thimble. Bit difficult to find sources for this (and I'm not massively familiar with IPA so I'm not sure how you'd phonetically spell it), but at 1:00 in this video, Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton pronounces it without the hard T. At the start of this video, 7 News anchor Peter Hitchener pronounces it without the hard T. The incorrect pronunciation on this article should be changed, and I would appreciate it if someone more proficient with IPA than myself is able to do so! --LivelyRatification (talk) 12:19, 17 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
