Change to plot

edit

On July 14, User 74.4.62.170 changed the Plot and Settings section of the Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 page to indicate that the earthquake was 8.0 on the Shindo scale rather than on the Richter scale.

Evidence for the Richter scale is that the newscaster said:

『地震の規模しましたマグニチュのは八点...』 jishin no kibo shimashita magunichu no wa hachi ten... The scale of the earthquake made a magnitude of 8 point...

マグニチュード magunichudo is used to refer to a Richter number. 震度 - しんど - shindo would be used to refer to a Shindo number.

The show itself is called: 東京マグニチュード8.0 which uses the Richter terminology.

The only evidence for attributing the Shindo scale is that the newscaster gave a fixed radius for the earthquake.

Additionally the Shindo scale only goes to 7.0

The evidence heavily leans towards Richter. --Drobertbaker (talk) 17:24, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry to say but this is anime uses the Shindo scale, not the Richter scale. Yes it only goes to 7.0 but this is supposed to be about an earthquake so powerful it goes beyond what the Shindo scale though could measure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.254.170.110 (talk) 00:26, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please do not change this without reference. I could not find any other evidence for the Shindo scale and for example in the Japanese wikipedia they also use Richter. Eginhard (talk) 14:32, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK you're right. It is indeed using the Richter scale, not the Shindo scale. Main reason is because the Shindo scale doesn't use decimal points. The Shindo scale is similar to the EF scale used for measuring the strength of Tornadoes. Neither system uses a decimal system and only categorize via a whole number. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.254.170.56 (talk) 07:23, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I would say considering the radius and the after effect (broken roads, crashed buildings that ARE ALREADY earthquake proof in Japan (are built with buffers), that this is NOT a Richter scale. The magnitude is too intense in the epicenter, to justify the small radius of effect to be a scale 8 on Richter earthquake; My humble opinion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.254.64.146 (talk) 05:33, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is half points in the Shindo scale though, and from the interviews I read it was meant to be Shindo 8, i.e. a fictional earthquake. WatcherZero (talk) 18:34, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Spoilers

edit

I really find the article a big minefield for spoilers. It did ruin it for me a bit but yeah, The episode summaries should be at least spoiler-free. Akira T. 06:14, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I fixed it for now. I hope it won't get ruined for everyone else who wants to watch it. Akira T. 00:46, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please read the last paragraph of WP:SPOIL: "It is not acceptable to delete information from an article because you think it spoils the plot." This is an encyclopaedia, therefore it may include significant plot points if they are relevant to the article. David Bailey (talk) 09:19, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Um, if you're going to slap me with a WP: page, I'm not just making it spoiler-free, but yeah, please take time in comparing the entries in episodes nine and ten, and the others. I'm sure you can tell the difference, you just gave the entire plot of the episodes instead of describing it. Akira T. 13:56, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
You need to stop removing spoilers. If you don't want to be spoiled, to not read the article. You are acting inappropriately and removing fully valid content. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 15:55, 2 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
One blatantly put yuuki's death on the character introduction, written like- "Yuuki dies near the end" is pretty much trolling it up.
Someone can put on the Plot Summary that Yuuki succumbed to the injuries he had, and its aftermath on episode eleven.
Also, before everything, compare the lengths of the synopses of episode one to 8, and episodes 9 onwards. Is there a big inconsistency? The first few episode synopses are short summaries, while the latter pretty much tells the whole episode.
For the sake of it, I'll leave everything up to them. All I wanted was to keep this article in order. Peace out.

First, WP:AGF. There is nothing trolling about it at all. Character deaths are appropriate in plot sections, character summaries and episode summaries. The lack of valid summaries for the first 7 episodes is no reason to remove all of the content from those specific two. All of the summaries should give the major plot points of the episodes, not just act as teasers to the episode. While 8 and 9 are a little overly wordy, the others are far too brief. I'd encourage you to look at some featured level anime articles and featured episode lists to see what is appropriate. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:26, 2 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Remember, WP:SPOIL is a style guideline, not a hard and fast rule demanding spoilers. The problem with this is that few readers know about WP:SPOIL, and so don't know not to read about series that they haven't watched yet. Since most people WOULD know not to read the plot summaries, I would say it was okay to mention Yūki's death there. Also, Yūki's death does not really define who he is throughout the series, so it seems wrong to include it in a two sentence summery. His relationship with his sister is more important.
