PX2C Review quote

edit

Is that even a real journalistic outlet, or just some fan site that added its own review here for clicks? It's just a Tumblr blog. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:2E96:BA90:8596:C1E2:F1BA:DDBB (talk) 21:23, 31 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Shaders

edit

It says that the engine does not use any "pixel shaders". It is my understanding that the engine doesn't use shaders at all, vertex or pixel. This may cause some confusion. --Amenzix (talk) 23:15, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK, I'm going to change the article to refer to shaders in general. --Cornprone (talk) 00:15, 19 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Actually, the game uses only a few vertex shaders to do the basic lighting calculation and hardware skinning. You can find these shader codes in (installation directory)\programs\ --Rainsing (talk) 18:19, 22 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yep, Travis said he added vertex shader support late in development to improve performance in this forum post. However, apparently the program still runs even if those shaders aren't active. A while back, I changed the article from "does not use shaders" to "does not require shaders" because of this. --Cornprone (talk) 23:14, 22 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Editor name

edit

It says it's called 'Preditor' on their site, what's the source for the name 'TorchED'? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.177.139.49 (talk) 00:36, 9 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

A couple of weeks ago they found out they had to change the name because it was copyrighted. This forum post mentions the new name. The old name probably still pops up in a lot of places. --Cornprone (talk) 02:37, 9 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fate?

edit

Did anyone notice that this game is identical to the game Fate? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.124.25.137 (talk) 21:33, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

This game had significantly more content than "Fate", though, of course, it is the brainchild of the same person, Travis Baldree.

Similar certainly, but I wouldn't say identical 202.53.199.23 (talk) 23:55, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Citation/grammar issue

edit

"As in Fate, players have a permanent pet which fights alongside them and can carry and sell loot. The initial pet can be either a wolf dog or a lynx; players can feed fish to their pet to transform it into different creatures.[13]" I changed the grammar of the sentence slightly, but more important is that in the cited source it does not mention the ability to feed fish to your pet. In the game you can indeed fish up items to feed your pet, but some of them are not fish and are instead jellyfish or mollusks. Minor point which I've drawn out a little far, just pointing out the error.--Brtw2 (talk) 09:53, 28 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nethack

edit

Is it just me, or does Torchlight appear to be heavily influenced by rogue-like games; particularly Nethack and Angband? I mean you get a pet you can feed, randomly generated dungeons, basically the same mix of item types, and even armor sets. I'm just surprised that I don't get my own home in town and have to dodge Farmer Maggot's dog. :-) —RJH (talk) 21:51, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not much of a role-playing element though. I got bored with it after a while and quit.—RJH (talk) 18:33, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Torchlight is based on Fate. Fate is based on a mix of Diablo and Nethack. 24.171.2.51 (talk) 19:39, 20 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

More on pets

edit

I added ferrets to the part of the article that lists the pets you can start with. Reading the forums, I realised later that a ferret may be an option only for some versions of the game. The game I use is a jewelcase (discount/cheapie) version, rather than the original boxed version or the steam download. You are correct - the ferret is only available in retail copies (i.e. those sold in shops rather than on Steam etc) of the game. I clarified it and added a source. I have no idea whether it's available in the Xbox 360 version though. Alphathon /'æl.f'æ.θɒn/ (talk) 15:07, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
