Toshiba Corporation Acquisition by Japan Industrial Partners
editToshiba Corporation is set to go private and be delisted tomorrow. In the type section, would it count as a Subsidiary, Division, or just private? Already, Japan Industrial Partners acquired majority of Toshiba. WiinterU (talk) 15:12, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- I would assume subsidiary but the best thing to do here is to see how reliable sources describe it. —Panamitsu (talk) 21:42, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Since it already is majority acquired by JIP, it could be considered a Public Subsidiary. However, I don't see how this would be useful as the company could be delisted and fully acquired by tomorrow. WiinterU (talk) 21:48, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- I think we could also create a page for Japan Industrial Partners, not only because it has acquired a majority stake and will soon buy out Toshiba, but also because it owns a majority stake in the joint venture Vaio. WiinterU (talk) 21:52, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- I think we have to be careful that notability cannot be inherited, as JIP doesn't appear to have much coverage (apart from buying Toshiba, which may fall under WP:NOTNEWS). I've created a draft so we can figure out if JIP is notable or not. —Panamitsu (talk) 22:02, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Ok yes JIP does look to be notable. I've moved the draft to the mainspace. —Panamitsu (talk) 23:03, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you WiinterU (talk) 23:05, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Anyway, since JIP is in private equity, it would make Toshiba private once fully acquired. WiinterU (talk) 00:15, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- I mean Toshiba is being delisted so that'd make it private regardless. —Panamitsu (talk) 03:15, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
