Adding info on JDM cars

edit

Do u mind if I add some info on JDM as well as European Camrys?? Would u mind me putting it as a subsection within each generation??

I don't want to make it seem like permission is required—but, I have absolutely no objection to inclusion of Euro/JDM information in the article. I encourage it, and I'm looking forward to reading about cars that I don't see every day. --Milkmandan 02:08, 2005 Apr 17 (UTC)

I asked cos the article is already very impressive, & I'm sure u've spent a lot of time on it, including the layout design. The Camry has a complicated model branchline (as most Japanese cars in the 70/80/90's do), so it would be very easy to make the article hard to read by not giving thought to the article's layout, as there are a lot of extra info.

years, and engines missed

edit

i was looking through the Camry section, and found that you forgot the 1992-1993 V6 motor. it was the 3.0L 4 cam 3VZ-FE. Also the third generation was from 1992-1996.

(this was on the right hand column)

Wrong Transmission Descriptions

edit

The A140E is a four speed (three speed + overdrive), just like the A540's and A541s

Kanye West

edit

Moved this in from the article, doesn't make much sense to me: "Toyota Camry is mention alot when rapper Kanye West Raps in DJ Khaled Grammy Family"

miles per gallon?

edit

I think this article, and indeed all articles about various makes of automobiles, should include information about miles per gallon. It could go in the little "stat" box on the right, even.

I suggest this because that is why *I* looked this article up, but was not able to find the information. Mpg is increasingly becoming a bigger and bigger concern for drivers.

Anonymous users—who I suspect are sockpuppets of the same person, based on their awkward grammar—have repeatedly added information to the XV80 section about a a change.org petition that has, as I write this, gathered about 200 signatures (about one signature per 41 million residents of the planet, so it's not exactly a mass movement). Can we build consensus that this information is non-encyclopedic WP:CRUFT that is inappropriate to add to this article per WP:UGC and WP:NOTEVERYTHING? I can envision Wikipedia automotive articles drowning in trivial or puerile online petitions if this sort of thing is allowed to stand. Carguychris (talk) 21:59, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, it is cruft. With such a small number of signatures compared to the cost of developing that engine to meet emission laws and the cost of certifying it (a non-trivial amount), Toyota is almost certainly going to ignore it.  Stepho  talk  22:19, 4 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Toyota will approve it. & According to this, a petition on Change.org began in November 2023 by Andrew Huynh, requested fans of the Camry to petition Toyota to bring the V6 back for model year 2026. By July 2024 it had received over 250+ signatures.[1] 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:385E:2169:7EBC:BE22 (talk) 01:30, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
If Toyota approves it (not when, we are not a WP:CRYSTALBALL), then this might be worthy of inclusion. Unless and until that happens, this information is cruft. - ZLEA T\C 02:23, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
8 months and only 253 signatures. Oh dear!
And the Carbuzz article says in its summary at the top "V6 is unlikely to return.
Nothing more we need to say.  Stepho  talk  09:21, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think they'll need to restore the V6 for 2026, if they go to Change.org online & search up Keyword: Toyota Camry V6. 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:2DF6:2C51:EEB8:5F65 (talk) 12:38, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Stepho-wrs, You know who this is, @SOTProductions (Otherwise known as Andrew Huynh) & I was the one who started the petition on Change.org & it had 252 known Signatures as of July 2024. SOTProductions (talk) 13:05, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not clear if you are saying Huynh is SOTProductions or if he is 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:385E:2169:7EBC:BE22 . Either way, it falls under WP:COI conflict of interest if he is actively trying to add his petition to the WP article.
253 signatures as of 23 July 2024. Compared to 290,649 sales in the US in 2023, that is about 0.1%. And it's cheap to put a signature on a petition. How many of those would translate into real sales? Remember that Toyota has to design that engine, prepare factories for it and certify it. I've been a part of designing engine EFI systems and their certification - not cheap! Toyota will want to recoup their costs and at 253 sales the figures do not add up.
Also, the 301 hp V6 can be replaced by the 340 hp hybrid engine - as suggested by the Carbuzz article. This engine is already used in the Crown and is more likely to be used going forward than an obsolete engine.
So this is all just wishful thinking by Huynh.  Stepho  talk  00:26, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
You know I’m right. - Andrew Huynh 174.77.220.178 (talk) 00:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Think of it this way. If you're so sure Toyota will act on your petition, then you should not need to advertise it on Wikipedia. In the off chance that something actually comes of it, then we might consider covering your petition here. - ZLEA T\C 01:05, 24 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey, @ZLEA, @Stepho-wrs & @Carguychris, Read what this says, please.
"Dear Andrew Huynh,
Thank you for contacting us about Putting the V6 in the 2026 Camry’s.
We appreciate your suggestion and through communications like yours, we learn about our customers' expectations and reactions. [No one knows our vehicles better than our Toyota/Lexus Family, so we truly value your comments.]
To gather our customers' input, we do interviews, issue surveys, and convene focus groups. However, there's no better source than a vehicle owner who takes time to share valid insight, so we truly thank you.
Please know, we have documented your suggestion here at Toyota National Headquarters.
Sincerely,
Toyota Executive Office"
That letter was sent to me from Toyota. 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:29AF:B5B3:1D84:35C5 (talk) 05:01, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
So Toyota said thank you and filed your suggestion. Isn't that the total outcome of most suggestion boxes?  Stepho  talk  05:16, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's what I was thinking. I'd probably get a similar response if I suggested that they put a turbine engine in the 2026 Camry. Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion. If you want to promote your petition, you are free to do so anywhere but Wikipedia. - ZLEA T\C 07:36, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Toyota nearly gave us turbines in the 70/80s: Toyota Century GT45, Toyota Sports 800 Gas Turbine Hybrid and Toyota GTV.
This reminds me of the GM EV1 and the Chrysler Turbine car (I have a beautiful 1:18 scale model of this). These were made in modest numbers, fully road legal, trialled for a year or so with real customers under lease conditions. The customers begged to buy them but the corporations decided to have them crushed instead. Public opinion rarely overrides the bottom line.  Stepho  talk  08:01, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid so, @Stepho-wrs. 107.142.159.147 (talk) 23:12, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Carguychris, @Stepho-wrs, @ZLEA, The Camry petition is now 329 Signatures now. 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:E1B0:E36D:322B:9105 (talk) 16:05, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
This has become disruptive. We have told you numerous times that your petition is non-encyclopedic cruft, and the number of signatures is inconsequential to that fact. We will not WP:PROMOTE your petition here. - ZLEA T\C 16:53, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes you will. Not cruft! 216.70.189.155 (talk) 19:04, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
& Toyota will bring back the V6 for the 2026 Model Year!! You will now promote my petition now!!! 216.70.189.155 (talk) 19:15, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I forgot that the user was blocked for spam. I've reported these two new IPs for block evasion. I think we can close this discussion now. - ZLEA T\C 00:08, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
ZLEA , thank you.
329 is still a tiny number.
Re: "You will now promote my petition now". See the policy WP:PROMO and the explanatory essay WP:YESPROMO.  Stepho  talk  00:46, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Now 333. Soon the V6 will return in 2025 for the 2026 Model Year. 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:7C16:875D:36F:2C99 (talk) 19:15, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Toyota has supported a petition for the Camry Gas Model & the V6. Take a letter from a few months ago, for example.
"Dear Andrew Huynh,

The new IP has been sent to SPI, though I'm not sure what good it will do. I'm going to close this discussion since nothing constructive will come of it. Any future discussions created to promote this petition will be reverted and the IPs or accounts will be dealt with accordingly. - ZLEA T\C 19:24, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
It will do any good. I'm trying to bring the V6 back to Camry with 333. 2600:8801:9B13:EC00:7C16:875D:36F:2C99 (talk) 19:26, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Toyota Camry (XV80)

edit

The Toyota Camry (XV80) will be launched in the Middle East by the end of Q3 2024. Alex LX281 (talk) 05:04, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Need references from reliable sources that are not just speculative guesses. See WP:FACT, WP:RS, WP:CRYSTALBALL. If so, then feel free to add it to the article.  Stepho  talk  05:17, 16 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
