How tall is Tracy McGrady?
editHe's listed as 6'8" but is commonly refered to as much taller than that. For instance: [1] T-mac is clearly taller than Stromile Swift (6'9"). This implies that T-mac is closer to 6'10", not 6'8".—Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.210.160.2 (talk • contribs) 22:51, October 8, 2005
- He is probably closer to 6'9 but listed at 6'8 but. It is true he might be taller or the same height as Swift but they also exaggerate Swift at a half inch to an inch taller than his actual height. Also, while with the Rockets, McGrady increased his muscle mass and weighed in at 225.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.79.222.9 (talk • contribs) 15:47, November 17, 2005
- In the picture, [2], I think that the angle had an influence - it didn't look very straight. Also, you don't know the situation at the time; like, was Stromile slumping? You couldn't even see their feet so you could also say that T-mac may have been tip-toe-ing.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Virgofenix (talk • contribs) 18:38, January 9, 2006
- Actually Swift is 6-9 1/2 barefoot.
- This should pretty much prove T-Mac is 6-10
- Just read this web page

I have a picture of Tracy with Vince Carter from about 2 weeks ago and they look almost the same exact height. Tracy is about 6'6. If he is 6'8 than hShaq is 7'3 and if he is 6'10 Shaq is 7'5 so 6'10 isnt even close. Here is the picture with 6'6 Vince Carter and they are right next to eachother. http://www.nba.com/media/TMaccarter_400_070309.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 19:32, March 19, 2007
- The pic doesn't show the full bodies. T-Mac is already slouching while VC is standing upright. We can't see if T-Mac's knees are bent too. So from this pic I won't say 100% they are the same height. If the NBA says he is 6'8", why are we disagreeing??? Chensiyuan 01:29, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh yeah I forgot NBA heights are always accurate!!! Like Barkley being listed at 6ft6 and Ewing being listed at 7 feet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 21:37, March 19, 2007
- I won't say they are always accurate. But they present a default accurate position. If you can find a reliable source that contradicts the NBA figure, then present it. Very simple methodology. Chensiyuan 02:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ok fair enough I'll look for his pre-draft measurement again. That has him at 6'6.5 he looks to be a half inch taller than VC. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 21:54, March 19, 2007
- Just to the prove a point here he is with Vince Carter again who is 6'5.5 http://www.nba.com/media/magic/mcgrady_carter_011030.jpg Obviously he is 6'6.5 max and not 6'9-6'10. There are many more which McGrady at around the same in comparison to Carter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RandyRhoadsRonnieDio (talk • contribs) 11:25, March 20, 2007
- i mean, you do realise these pictures are not entirely conclusive right. the science behind perspective calculations is not my realm, but even if you can hazard a good guess it still remains a guess. i think if you ask around most other wikipedia editors would really settle the issue with an official source. i know what you're saying with the picts, but they don't break the deadlock. Chensiyuan 16:37, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- LOL Tracy was measured at 6'6 1/4 pre-draft and the pictures with Vince Carter prove it. He is not much taller than teammate Chuck Hayes who is 6'5 1/4 barefoot and he was pretty much the same height as Matt Hapring and Gordan Giricek when the Jazz played the Rockets. He is 6'7 1/2 in his shoes rounded to his NBA listing of 6'8...that is not strange that is the exact same thing they did with Carmelo Anthony. Josh Howard and Caron Butler are both 6'5 1/4 barefoot and 6'6 1/2 in shoes rounded to the NBA listing of 6'7. RandyRhoadsRonnieDio

People, you must realize that when they measured T-Mac during pre-draft, he was less then 21 years old. Get it? He continued to grow taller. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.251.177.243 (talk • contribs) 00:58, July 2, 2007
- No, he is 2.03 (6,8) Tim Duncan or Alonzo Mourning is about 6,10 and T-Mac is clearly much shorter Tracy Mcgrady (Verson 2.0) 03:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Mcgrady is probably from 6'6" to 6'7" and no way he is going to be 6'10". From this image, [3], we can see Carter(6'6") is about the same height as Mcgrady. Brave warrior 20:11, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- On the 07-08 Topps basketball card of T-Mac, it says he's 6'8. On NBA.com, it also says he's 6'8. So just taking a wild guess, I'd say he's 6'8. Basketball110 (talk) 05:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

What's McGrady's Real Weight?
editI've seen different weight numbers for T-Mac from 210-234, does anyone know for sure? Has there been an updated weigh-in? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omershahab (talk • contribs) 12:13, July 1, 2006
- The last official weigh in listing is 223, however he recently said in an interview with The Houston Chronicle that he now weighs 235. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.134.225.200 (talk • contribs) 00:41, July 31, 2006

Relationship to Vince Carter
edittracy mcgrady and vince carter are NOT second cousins, but THIRD cousins. In order to be SECOND cousins, they have to have the same great grandmother. Since their grandmothers are cousins, it means that they have the same great-great grandparents. That makes them THIRD cousins —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.233.77.99 (talk • contribs) 20:02, February 12, 2007
- Thanks for clearing this up, I was wondering about the exact relationship. I just went with second cousin since I saw it somewhere. However, a lot of times on TV and such when T-Mac is playin Carter the commentators just say "cousins" so a lot of people think they are first cousins. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omershahab (talk • contribs) 17:02, March 11, 2007 (UTC)

Some suggestions
editJust some style suggestions I had considering the layout of the article to make it easier to read.
- Highschool Career: merge?
- I'm thinking that merging Highschool career and early career would be a good idea, as they're both technically the same thing and don't really require their own sections when they could be in one.
- Career statistics, NBA career: tables?
- Putting these in tables would make them much more accessible, as right now they're a bit impenetrable due to their block-of-text-like nature.
- Miscellaneous facts: remove/integrate?
- Trivia sections like this are generally discouraged by guidelines. While they may be interesting, they don't really offer much pertinent information. I'd suggest trying to integrate them into the article without breaking up the flow; if that isn't possible, then removing them is a good idea.
That's all I can think of for now. I'll try to help out on what I can. Master of Puppets Care to share? 19:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Pre-NBA
editThe Pre-NBA section talks about his time in Orlando WITH the NBA. Basketball110 (talk) 16:03, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Streaks...
editIs it worth noting that he lost 19 games in a row in Orlando and has won 22 in a row in Houston? That's an interesting and unusual stat. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 153.91.65.56 (talk) 22:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
No, not in an individual sense it is not. If there were another person playing for the same teams as him during the same time, then he will also inherit the streak, much like saying in ice hockey that if I'm a defenseman with a +/- of 20 in ice hockey, if a right winger is always on the ice with me at the same time, his +/- rating would be identical to me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.216.172.203 (talk) 22:50, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually Tracy McGrady has 4 children. He has a 2 year old daughter with a Bradenton, Florida woman. He has to pay her $54,000+ a year in child support, which is way less than what she was trying to get. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eaglebird72 (talk • contribs) 04:33, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Tracy Mcgrady 2010 NBA All-Star Game Voting Results
editThe point is whether or not you agree with the movement, it is well documented with primary sources, and it is noteworthy. I have listed the sources below, please list your comments in the discussion page before you make further edits.
Sources: 1. NBA(dot)com http://www.nba(dot)com/2009/news/12/10/allstar.vote.update.1/ "In the Western Conference, Bryant, a three-time All-Star MVP, is followed at guard by the Houston Rockets' Tracy McGrady (281,545)."

FANHOUSE(dot)COM http://nba.fanhouse(dot)com/2009/12/10/tracy-mcgrady-biggest-surprise-among-early-all-star-returns/ "In first balloting returns announced Thursday, McGrady, who wants to play but hasn't yet logged a second this season while recovering from knee surgery, is amazingly second in the West at guard behind the Lakers' Kobe Bryant. He's in line to start ahead of third-place Steve Nash, 35, who is merely defying age while averaging 17.5 points and a league-high 11.0 assists and leading Phoenix to a surprising 15-7 mark."

- Couple of things. Yes, the results are verifiable by reliable sources, but as far as I can tell, the T-Mac movement is not mentioned. Also Wikipedia is WP:NOT a news service and interim results are meaningless in the whole scheme of things. So we should either wait until the voting is finished or legit media outlets discuss the T-Mac-for-All-Star movement, it's not notable enough to warrant a mention here. --Mosmof (talk) 02:05, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Original Reasearch?
editThis section from the end of the "Houston Rockets" section seems like original research to me. There are qualitative statements about the kind or quality of player that he is and no citations of any kind. Does this belong?
"Throughout his NBA career, McGrady has always had unique playmaking abilities and court vision for a player of his size (6-8). Some have even compared his skillset to that of Scottie Pippen who had the unique ability to run the offense from the SF position. McGrady also has good size allowing him to guard SG's, SF's, and PF's and to grab rebounds. However, critics have pointed out his inconsistent FG shooting and FT shooting. Another big criticism has been his inability to stay healthy and play for 82 games in a season, and his tendency to fall short in the playoffs. Despite the Rockets advancing in the playoffs in 2009, McGrady was on the injured list adding more fuel to the fire."

The Knicks will acquire McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez from Sacramento, sources said.
The Rockets get Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill and Jared Jeffries from New York and will have the right to swap first-round picks with New York in 2011 as well as take on New York's 2012 first-round pick.
Sacramento obtains Houston's Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey and New York's Larry Hughes.

- Right. Tracy doesn't know what "official" means. They've agreed to a deal, but haven't signed it yet. Once he passes his physical and the contract is signed and submitted to the league office, then he's officially a Piston. --Mosmof (talk) 17:53, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
Player Position Battles/Training camp in Detroit?

2010/2011 season should be improved.
editThat section is very short and vague. I feel it could be improved greatly. It just gives his stats for the entire season which makes it look like he had a bad year when actually his season was quite positive. I think it should be mentioned that the first half of the season was dedicated to getting him in basketball shape after 2 years off from injury and that he played well the second half. I believe he averaged close to 15 points and 5 assists the second half of the season. I think it should also be mentioned that he was the team's starting point guard the second half of the season. I just feel the section could be a bit more positive even without being biased. You may be asking, "Why don't you do it yourself?". Well I literally JUST signed up for Wikipedia to say this so someone with experience should probably do it. Farewell and thanks for listening Chabowker (talk) 06:16, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Well, Wikipedia articles are entirely written by volunteers, who may not have time or interest to improve articles like this one. You had a good point that the section should be improved like many other articles. So, I strongly suggest you help improving it, being new shouldn't not a problem at all.—Chris!c/t 21:34, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Points Per Game is WRONG
editThe highest ppg of any NBA player ever is 30.2 by Michael Jordan. According to this article, Mcgrady has had multiple seasons above this, with one season at 37.8. This is WAY WRONG! Someone should fix it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.169.218.134 (talk) 01:46, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Objective much?
editThere are some pretty big breaks from neutral language in this article. I mean... should the adjective "stellar" probably shouldn't make an appearance in any article not related to astronomy or Incubus. I'm dropping that one out but this article could really use a once-over to root out the PR speak.Scardinoz (talk) 15:20, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
- Article should reflect the perception among most analysts that outside of injuries, he's one of the all-time greats. However, agreed that words like 'stellar' should not be present to depict that. MavsFan28 (talk) 17:41, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Will do. YE Pacific Hurricane 17:17, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Why is the United States linked in the first sentence? See WP:OVERLINK. YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)" He played as both a shooting guard and small forward. He is a seven-time NBA All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection, two-time NBA scoring champion, and one-time winner of the NBA Most Improved Player Award. He will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2017." why the he 3 times in a row? this continues in the lead, I suggest changing a few to McGrady and the athlete) YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)- What was McGrady's first contract?
- Per Basketball Reference, it appears that he signed a three-year rookie contract after being drafted by the Raptors, but I can't tell the exact terms. If you think this information is essential, let me know; otherwise, I'll probably leave out.--Ktmartell (talk) 23:52, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
"McGrady began playing more under new coach Butch Carter on the condition that McGrady improve his work ethic.[5]" missing a "would" somewhere. YE Pacific Hurricane"Orlando were eventually eliminated by Milwaukee in four games.[18]" "were" to "was to fix the grammar error. Alternatively, you could change "Orlando" to "The Magic". YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)- " Late in the season, McGrady scored a career-high 62 points in a winning effort versus the Washington Wizards.[28] His final averages were 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.[1]" why the rounding? YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
- There's actually no rounding there. His averages just came out really clean that season, I suppose.--Ktmartell (talk) 23:52, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
"The series would go to a decisive Game 7, where McGrady came out cold, missing seven of his first shots en route to a 40-point loss.[33]" "seven of his" how many shots? If seven, just say "missing his first seven shots" or something. YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)What were his numbers in 2005-06 and 2008-09? YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)"In 2009–10, McGrady played in only six games for Houston.[1]" specifically why? YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)How did he play for the Pistons and Hawks? Trade? FA? YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)"weighing 210 pounds (95.3 kg)" why rounded to 3 figures here but only 2 in the infobox? YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)Make sure all reference dates were consistent (ie all MDY). YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
All in all, a decent article. Well written just needs slight fine tuning in some places. YE Pacific Hurricane 18:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
- I will work to make these revisions over the course of the week. Thanks for taking a look.--Ktmartell (talk) 23:39, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Alright. I think that everything is done, with the exception of a couple of points that may not require any action. I'll continue tweaking through Saturday, so let me know if I need to correct anything else!--Ktmartell (talk) 00:49, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
