- Do you have a conflict of interest? I ask because a lot of times an editor uses the Request Edit (for COI), whereas they intended to use Edit Request (for protected pages) CorporateM (Talk) 02:43, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
- I've been using it, as a requesting method for edits, since User:Widefox said I shouldn't be bold about it. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 04:04, 21 October 2014 (UTC)
- Procedural Note: while there's an open proposal at Talk:Highway patrol, this discussion should not be opened here.
- Keep (as WP:BROADCONCEPT not a dab or SIA), location per outcome of Talk:Highway patrol (67.70.35.44 I've suggested you create an account, then you won't need all these edit requests for disambiguation, and I've never suggested you use edit requests let alone COI ones. Suggest fleshing out this article with historical context and moving the non-highway related stuff in Highway patrol here.
editWas looking for information on traffic cops of the traditional sort and discovered that there seems to be a disagreement about where this should be placed. Seems much of the Highway patrol article actually describes such traffic cops, but to me that seems to be a poor idea. The expression "highway patrol", in the U.S., implies law enforcement specifically on major high-speed routes. This is very different from the American concept of the traditional traffic cop, who controlled traffic at busy intersections. Such cops were once common in the U.S. before they were mostly replaced by automated signals. I was hoping to find information about how that transition came about. --Colin Douglas Howell (talk) 09:50, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
- These articles have created considerable confusion and argument, as in many (or most) countries, "traffic police" refers to specialist police officers who patrol roads of any type, including units that would in the USA be referred to as "highway patrol". In Britain, for instance, this was always the meaning of "traffic police", with officers who used to control traffic at junctions just being ordinary beat officers on point duty with no special name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:13, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
