I removed this entire section:

"* What begun in 2001 at the infamous Broadway Squats in Sydney as a singular act of defiance against the scale and commercialism of Tropfest, SquatFest - the “Anti-Tropfest Fest” - has continued to run every year since, always on the same night as TropFest. Squatting.[1] a different empty building in Sydney each year, SquatFest has reached its 10th anniversary in 2010. The organisers of SquatFest are particularly critical of the way that Tropfest lost touch with its origins as local community event held in the close confines of the Tropicanna Cafe, in Darlinghurst. Unlike the massive Tropfest event, there is no selection process of films shown at SquatFest, film-makers simply bring their film along on the night."

I could find no sources for this other than this group's own website. If an RS can be found then by all means put it back. 59.101.33.190 (talk) 08:20, 26 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree the above section should be removed. It's just a plug for another festival disguised as criticism, most likely written by a group of self absorbed hipsters who had films rejected by Tropfest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.148.180.127 (talk) 22:07, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Edited out some market-speak and 'passive voice' (weasel) phrases.

edit

Agree completely with the tag that this article reads like a promotion/press release. So I have deleted some of the more blatant market-speak and even added a reference. Now there are 6! About 24 more will make it a reasonable 'pedia article. Le sigh. Wayne 07:50, 2 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Have removed the PR tag and replaced it with a more refs tag, as it isn't really that blatant with promospeak, but agree it needs a lot more refs and work (see new section below). Coolabahapple (talk) 05:24, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Improvements Needed

edit

I have just moved a lot of infomation out of the lead in line with WP:LEAD and also made up some sections to put some of it into. But this article needs a lot more work including a lot more references:). The Fesival section appears to include a lot of info that should really be in the History section. Is there a standard somewhere about the organisation of film festivals and section headings or do editors just put in what they like(mea culpa:)). Also, it would be good if the article included some of the notable directors/actors/producers who got their break/start(?) in the industry from the trop. And how do you add a high import to the festival, OZ cinema, Sydney taskforces which may attract more editors to help? Oh well, back to editing child lit(see my contributions) Coolabahapple (talk) 05:50, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Tropfest. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
