Airport Name Change Reasons Given
editThere is more than one reason for the change of Tulsa Riverside's name. Tulsa Riverside Airport's former name, Richard Lloyd Jones Jr. Airport, was changed to avoid allegations of racism towards Richard Lloyd Jones Jr.'s father, Richard Lloyd Jones. However, it is also the case that the former name may have been confusing to pilots, conflicting with Jones Memorial (25NM SW of Tulsa Riverside). Perhaps both of these reasons should be made clear, albeit cautiously. Bd950 (talk) 19:30, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- Do you have a published source for the allegations against Jones Sr. and how this may relate to the renaming? I got the impression that there was an unspoken political motive, but I was trying to use only reliable published sources, and the ones I found did not discuss the politics (and for what it's worth, I'm largely unfamiliar with Tulsa).
