Major Revert (04:58, 16 July 2006 (UTC))

edit

I have just made a revert to this page covering several versions, back to Irishguy's version of June 11. I reverted the change of the page into a redirect , and while I was at it, removed two non-notable (red-linked) individuals.

The change to a redirect (by anonymous IP 65.122.45.112) was not discussed here, and no rationale has been given for why Tyler, Texas is any better for this article title than other cities of that name, a notable person (like U.S. President Tyler), or anything else named Tyler. The anon editor has edited several articles relating to Tyler, Texas, and that may be a factor.

Regardless of motivation, I think a dab page makes much more sense here. Please discuss future major changes of this nature before destroying large amounts of work for a redirect. --SuperNova |T|C| 04:58, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Out of the last 50 edits, 24 (48%) have been vandalism, 44 (88%) if you also include the corresonding reverts. I tried and and failed to get the page protected - [1] -- John (Daytona2 · Talk · Contribs) 16:02, 8 February 2008 (UTC) Tyler also means golfer in French history. Tyler is a name for cool people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.154.196.189 (talk) 23:49, 7 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Anonomyous Project Tyler Wikileaks crossed with BitTorrent clone.

edit

I'm going to add a section for organisations and projects named Tyler to put in a link to a page for the aforementioned Anon Wikileaks clone Tyler. Unless anyone has any reasons why I shouldn't ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ultan42 (talkcontribs) 10:07, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Obama redirect to president Barack Obama Obama (disambiguation) Obama (surname) Look here and here to see that "Obama" in 2004 used to be about a place in Japan.
  • Oppose: In the case of all the other names shown in the table, it would be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to argue that the family name was the primary topic. The one exception, it would appear, is Clinton (and I must admit to being surprised that didn't redirect to Bill Clinton). That is not the case with Tyler. None of the other entries on the Tyler (disambiguation) page have a cat in hell's chance of being considered the primary topic, and most people inputting simply Tyler are likely to be searching for the family name. Despite
? If Clinton would redirect to Bill Clinton it would be a strong case of recentism. Pedro Gonzalez-Irusta (talk) 17:13, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Unisex?

edit

Tyler is listed as a Unisex name on this page. Unisex would imply not that we can find two women named Tyler, but that there are a statistically significant number of women named Tyler. That's like taking the article on "North" and redirecting it to an disambiguity page because "it's also a name," simply because Kanye and Kim named their kid "North West." Derivation of name

edit

The only sources I can find that resemble the claim the tyler is Old English for door keeper of an inn are Þyle and Tyler_(Masonic). The latter repeats the claim here, but again, with no evidence given. I can't find tyler or tyle listed in the online Bosworth Toller Anglo-Saxon dictionary, only Þyle.--Swahilli (talk) 09:11, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

– The name cannot be considered the WP:PTOPIC for "Tyler". Going by page views from the previous 365 days, Tyler, Texas gets more than six times the page views of this article about the name. Thus the article about the name fails the "usage" criterion for PTOPIC; considering that the city in Texas was founded in 1846, long-term significance for the city is unlikely to be low either. In addition, you also have other competitors for primary topic status, such as Tyler Technologies whose page views are close to that of the name. feminist (talk) 12:22, 19 February 2020 (UTC) Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 18:08, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
