...but both the PAL & NTSC versions of b-format were composite, same as c-format.
it would be interesting to compare some other parameters (claimed or otherwise) on these two 1" formats, such as s/n, max h resolution & so on, & also to determine whether attempts were made to engineer a component version of b-format using extra heads/tracks. also curious about the effects of a repair to b-format- a simple spliced break in c-format resulted in a vertical wipe, of course, lasting several seconds, but the same repair on b-format would present as a diagonal wipe, if I've imagined this correctly. anyone know? anyone seen one?
I encountered b-format in the UK, at tyne-tees in the early 80s, where there were a number of studio decks & two cart machines intended for commercials. the carts were prepped on the full-size decks, in a similar workflow to ACR-25 2" carts. TTTV discovered that the carts weren't reliable enough to use direct to air, so they would prep & play the ad breaks on the BCN & then record the breaks onto normal c-format machines.
OR, of course- looking for someone to step up with some documentation.
