There are a number of alternative names used for USB Flash drives with no commonly recognized term emerging. The resulting confusion makes them more difficult for manufacturers to market and for consumers to research.
All of the following names (optionally prefixed with "USB") have been used. Some of the names are trademarks and are followed with the ™ symbol.

- Digi-Key (not to be confused with the American electronics distributor of the same name
- Dirty Finger – Operational slang reportedly used by ASIO/ASIS regarding a flash memory device concealed within the body
- Flash disk
- Flash drive
- Flash memory drive
- Geek stick – used by Geek Squad agents to refer to the special-use, branded USB flash drives with special diagnostic tools pre-loaded
- Intelligent Stick or just iStick which is a USB-based flash memory card with MMS interface
- Jump drive™ – used by Lexar Media and Philips Consumer Electronics.
- Keychain drive
- Keydrive™
- Keyfob – widely used in the Seattle area
- Memory drive

- Memory stick – derived from the common use of "stick" to describe a SIMM or DIMM; not to be confused with the flash-based Sony Memory Stick
