Language spoken in a couple of Armenian villages
editSince many Udi have been driven out of Azerbaijan in the 90's the Udi language is spoken in a couple of Armenian villages. ---> [[1]] and [[2]][[Apocolocynthosis 15:11, 23 November 2006 (UTC)]]
Vowel chart
editIs there an error in the vowel chart? The vowel [i] is repeated twice. Since there is a front round tense mid vowel[ø] in the inventory directly below it, should the second [i] in the actually be a [y]?
- Indeed, it should be [y]. I checked the table and corrected it and also added a reference. Thanks! — N-true (talk) 19:25, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Morphology
editI hope a linguist can understand the entry under Morphology! It is a classic example of unrestrained and excessive use of jargon:
The Udi grammar is agglutinating with a tendency towards a fusional (flectional) type. Udi agglutination is suffixing, infixing, and rare prefixing. Most of Udi grammatical elements are affixes restricted to specific word class, some are clitics. The grammatical word order is SOV.

- I have rephrased it. Can you understand it now (after having clicked through to the pages about the technical terms)? If anything remains unclear, please let me know. --JorisvS (talk) 19:00, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
Deletions
editDeleted some dead links in the external links section. 200.198.216.114 (talk) 18:48, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
- I've restored them with working links. A little bit of googling was already sufficient. --JorisvS (talk) 08:44, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
Why was this removed
editI submitted this as a witness to the "Albanian" (Udi) language from the Arabs:
- Al-Moqaddasi writes on the general region of Armenia, "Arran", and Azerbaijan:[1]
They have big beards, their speech is not attractive. In Arminya they speak Armenian, in al-Ran, Ranian.
- [Moqaddasi] distinguished both from the language-family in that region most familiar to him, Iranian.
Why was this not accepted? --Zimriel (talk) 21:29, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- Because it has nothing to do with this article. The quote itself is partly about people (not language), and partly mentions languages spoken in the region, but without any mention of Udi. And even if it did, a quote wouldn't be justified. It is so vague as to contain negligible information. --JorisvS (talk) 17:51, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Unique grammatical features
editSome linguists believe that the Udi language has a grammatical feature that occurs during inflection that may only exist in this language. I think this feature may warrant a mention on the page.
