"Welcoming Congregation" restructuring

Please see my comment on reorganization of the "Welcoming Congregation" topic (replying there). Thanks! --Haruo 06:40, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

Do we need this article and Welcoming Congregation both? Neither are very long, and the subject matter is too closely related for separate articles. I suggest we merge them together with a new name inclusive of all LGBT with discussion of Welcoming Congregations as well as UU congregations not part of the program. Aleta 11:30, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

No one objected: articles merged. Aleta 00:26, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
For discussion history of the Welcoming Congregation portion, see Talk:Welcoming Congregation. Aleta 01:25, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've turned Welcoming Congregation into a disambig as that seemed more useful than keeping the dablink text at the top of the section here. --Alynna 21:25, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good idea! Aleta 00:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Article title question

edit

Over at Talk:Welcoming Congregation before the merger, there seemed to be agreement on having the combined article at Unitarian Universalism and LGBT persons. Would there be support for moving this article there now? --Alynna 21:28, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd support it. I like the more inclusive name - which is better representative of the topic. Aleta 00:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I would support the general idea of moving this article to Unitarian Universalism and LGBT persons, but wouldn’t it be better to move it to Unitarian Universalism and LGBTQ persons. The Q in LGBTQ it stand for questioning, and I wink including the Q is more inclusive. What do you think?—Devin Murphy04:52, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Works for me. --Alynna 15:44, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Me, too. Inclusiveness is good.  :) Aleta 21:34, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

why i moved the portals

edit

I was primarily trying to fix a WP:BUNCH problem on my screen. Secondary to that, WP:PORTAL says: "These templates should be located at article ends in See also sections (or equivalents)." That's a good suggestion, I think, as a reader probably wants to visit a portal after they've read (most of) the article. But if you must move them back up, please at least put them under the Welcoming Congregations section, so they don't bunch up the edit links. coelacan04:46, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree they are better in the "see also" section. I'm not sure why they were moved out of it in the first place. Aleta 04:53, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Discussion about the names of articles including this one

edit

There is a discussion happening at WT:LGBT#Homosexuality or LGBT issues?. I have specifically mentioned this article there. Feel free to join the conversation if you have anything to contribute. LadyofShalott 18:30, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

See below. The Transhumanist 00:26, 30 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Title re-rename

edit

After looking more closely at the article, it has become clear that the issue goes beyond a mere grammar fix. I had changed the title from "LGBT topics and Unitary Universalism" to "LGBT orientation and Unitary Universalism". But, after someone complained that "LGBT" isn't an orientation, I decided to take a closer look at what the article itself says it is about.

The primary approach of the article appears to be describing Unitarian Universalism with respect to its views and treatment of people based on their sexual orientation.

Therefore, I've re-renamed the article accordingly, to "Unitarian Universalism and sexual orientation". Further discussion is welcome. The Transhumanist 23:42, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have no qualms with that title. LadyofShalott 03:16, 30 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Works for me. (For future reference, L, G and B may be orientations and/or preferences. T is neither. Q is, um, well, not sure.) - SummerPhD (talk) 05:36, 30 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have checked this article. Though I think this is a much more accurate title I still think it is not quite right yet. This is because the T in LGBT stands for transgender and as far as I know transgender is part of the gender spectrum and not a sexual orientation. So I would suggest changing the title to something like sexual orientation and gender acceptance within Unitarian Universalism. Thoughts? --Devin Murphy (talk) 08:18, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
It has been approx two months since I made my name change suggestion. I have not heard any objections. Admittedly I have also not heard any support either. As I feel this is a more accurate name I will be changing the name of this article to my suggestion sexual orientation and gender acceptance within Unitarian Universalism. --Devin Murphy (talk) 05:01, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
"Gender acceptance" doesn't mean anything, and is POV. The title is too long, and the content is about how UUT welcomes LGBT. The title should go back to "LGBT topics and Unitary Universalism". – Lionel (talk) 07:14, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Lionel you did not like my name change I did to this artificial and you reverted it which is fine. I believe you did it to allow for more discussion. But that now leaves this article with this "Unitarian Universalism and sexual orientation" name. A name I feel doesn't represent the fact that the UU welcoming program is about welcoming trans folk in addition to those with a non-heterosexual gender orientation. What to do now? Well as the article is currently written I would also support it being moved back to "LGBT topics and Unitary Universalism". --Devin Murphy (talk) 08:00, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
No matter what version is used, please, please do not say "Unitary Universalism". It's Unitarian Universalism. I say this because the former phrase has now been said twice in this conversation, and there is no such thing. LadyofShalott 16:37, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Forgive me for my typo, I meant to say "LGBT topics and Unitarian Universalism". --Devin Murphy (talk) 05:32, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
The change from "LGBT" to "sexual orientation" effectively removes transgender people from the title. Transgender issues have *nothing* to do with sexual orientation. I would suggest "Unitarian Universalism and LGBT issues." TeaganK (talk) 20:54, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's been three weeks since my above comment. I renamed the page to "Unitarian Universalism and LGBT topics." TeaganK (talk) 00:56, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks TeaganK. This new tittle of "Unitarian Universalism and LGBT topics" is finely in my opinion and read of this article, an accurate and apt one. My hope is this new title will stick thus ending this discussion, at least for the foreseeable future. --Devin Murphy (talk) 12:41, 9 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Looks like that title stuck for almost a decade, hooray! I'd like to propose that the title be updated to "Unitarian Universalism and LGBTQ people" (changing LGBT to LGBTQ). --RadicalCopyeditor (talk) 22:46, 16 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's been four months since my above comment, so I'm going to rename the page "Unitarian Universalism and LGBTQ people." RadicalCopyeditor (talk) 19:12, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Move discussion in progress

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:LGBT in Islam which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 12:59, 23 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Okay to delete the the maintenance template?

edit

In 2012 this page was flagged for both notability and too many primary sources. I've made substantial edits to the page and would like to remove the maintenance template, but want to make sure that I've added enough notable content and secondary sources to justify the removal. Thanks! --RadicalCopyeditor (talk) 01:22, 17 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
