Undue weight

edit

Hi Maxeto0910. Thanks for your work and help on this page. I think there is a problem with undue weight in part of the page. I don't think we should include very small, non-notable political parties that have no representation in either the Bundestag, state parliaments, or the European Parliament. I think therefore it would be best if The Violets, Liberal Democrats, Deutsche Mitte, V-Partei3, Bergpartei, die "ÜberPartei", Party of Humanists, Democracy in Motion, Human Environment Animal Protection, Socialist Equality Party and Die Urbane. Eine HipHop Partei were removed. The Pirate Party Germany is notable and should stay because it has an elected member of the European Parliament and the claim is covered by two reliable third-party sources. Die PARTEI can also stay as it has a member of the Bundestag and a member of the European Parliament. I think we can make an exception for Basic Income Alliance as universal basic income is its sole aim and it’s a unique political party in Germany that is just focused on this one issue. There are hundreds of political parties in Germany and its clear many have universal basic income on their agenda but I think listing all that do here makes the section messy and unwieldy and is just unnecessary since they have no power and very little influence not having elected representation. The claims also seem to be supported by first party sources which is also not preferable and lessens their validity as reputable sources and makes them less notable if the claim is not covered by a third-party/independent source (WP:INDEPENDENT). Look forward to hearing from you. Helper201 (talk) 17:56, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your input.
I agree with you that it is unnecessary and gives undue weight if we list every party who is in favour of UBI in the lead section.
I suggest either adding a listing section about all political parties in Germany that support basic income, similar to the section about persons in Germany who advocate it, and mentioning only the influential and relevant ones in the lead section, or adding the category "Category:Universal basic income in Germany" to all German parties who advocate it and referring to this category in the see also section, for example.
I think it is justified and may be relevant and interesting for readers in an article about UBI in a certain country to give at least an overview of all the parties in the country that advocate the concept.-- Maxeto0910 (talk) 18:49, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Listing every party anywhere on this page seems unnecessary and like undue weight to me if they have no elected representatives. I think its fine to add on each of the party's individual Wikipedia page with a supporting citation (preferably from a third-party source and not the party's own website) that they support UBI, but not a mass of parties with no power or representation here. Once the party is cited on its page as supporting UBI the "Category:Universal basic income in Germany" should then be added to its page as a formality.
On a side note, if you are interested in the subject/topic of UBI the project Wikipedia:WikiProject Universal Basic Income is currently inactive and could do with new members to re-start it, so please consider adding your name to the list of members there and helping re-start it. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers. Helper201 (talk) 19:22, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
