Vaclav Benda → Václav Benda — please move to correctly spelled name that now exists as its redirect. --Gumruch (talk) 07:44, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
It's not that simple... in fact, whether to include diacritics in article names is one of the most controversial policy matters in all of Wikipedia.
Is there any evidence that this diacritic is commonly included on the name in English? If not, then the article should stay where it is. Andrewa (talk) 14:17, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- I hear for the first time that diacritics omiting would concern Czech names—see e.g. Václav Havel, Václav Klaus, Czech politicians, Czech writers etc. I would move the article by myself unless the correct version exists as a redirect… --Gumruch (talk) 14:41, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- The very first word of the article is the correct version of his name, so its discrepancy with the name of the article should be corrected as well. --Gumruch (talk) 14:54, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- If this move proposal is rejected, then those other articles should probably be revisited as well.
- Yes , we do tend to use the diacritics in the article lead, even when the article name omts them. I guess this is a sort of shorthand, rather than giving an alternative spelling that differs only in an accent mark. Andrewa (talk) 20:28, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose, as this is the English language Wikipedia. GoodDay (talk) 18:07, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- Support, the name of the guy was Václav Benda, not Vaclav Benda. — Emil J. 13:04, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
