Dennis Meadows (Jamaican politician)

edit

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Dennis Meadows (Jamaican politician). The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Dennis Meadows (Jamaican politician)

edit

The article Dennis Meadows (Jamaican politician) has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Jane Fonda Edit

edit

Hello, Gumruch! In regards to this edit: is it really accurate to add the "ova" to her last name? I understand that Czech women adopt the "ova" for their last names as is the tradition in your nation; but I don't believe this is done when translating a non-Czech woman's name into the Czech language. Google Translate seems to back this up[1]: but I'm waiting to hear back from a good friend of mine who is married to a Czech national to find out exactly about the naming convention. Any thoughts? Cheers :> Doc talk 00:46, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello again! I have consulted with my friend's wife, and she confirmed that the edit is correct - for the most part. Apparently, it should be "Jane Fondaová" instead of "Jane Fondová". Could you possibly correct this, if this is appropriate? I would like to hear back from you, as Jane Fonda is a very notable celebrity, and the facts concerning her biography should be as accurate as possible. Thank you again! :> Doc talk 04:27, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I have not moved the page, just fixed the iw. But the “name feminization” in Czech and Slovak (see Slovak interwiki) is standard, as it helps to declinate names. The “silent a” from Fonda goes definitely out. Compare the book cover of her biography in Czech (record in the Database of the National Library of the Czech Republic) and the article in a Czech DB (not the page name, but the first appearence in the text). See also Czech category for American actresses—the state of feminization is not integral yet, it depends e.g. on practical use of a name in mass media. I hope we will never change e.g. Queen Latifah to Latifahová as it is not a family name. Sincerely Gumruch (talk) 09:00, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Good enough for me - and thank you for clearing it up further! By the way: Czech woman are... gorgeous! At least your "exports" are! Petra Němcová and Paulina Porizkova come to my mind immediately. It's small wonder that Sports Illustrated swimsuit models are predominately either Czech or Brazilian. You lucky bastards! Cheers, mate :> Doc talk 09:18, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tom Frost

edit

Hello, I see that you categorized Tom Frost as "1930s births". That would be my personal guess based on his college graduation date, but do you have a source? Are you sure that he wasn't born in 1929, for example? He is secretive about his date of birth, and there are WP:BLP concerns here. Cullen328 (talk) 23:07, 12 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello, the Creator template says circa 1938, it is possible deduction based on this article, probably from 2010, that says he was 72. --Gumruch (talk) 23:57, 12 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Czech help needed

Hello Gumruch, I'm contacting you because we need some Czech translators to help with the deployment of the new VisualEditor on cs.wikipedia. There are help pages, user guides, and description pages that need translating, as well as the interface itself. The translating work is going on over on MediaWiki: Translation Central. I also need help with a personal message for the Czech Wikipedians. If you are able to help in any way, either reply here, or head over to TranslationCentral.
