@filelakeshoe - Thank you for your help, everything in the article is verifiable. From my today's point of view, it would deserve a more professional (musicological) rewrite, as I tried to write not only encyclopedic entry, but also an interesting story of life and work .. and I'm just a fan or admirer of Janáček's work, not musical scientist. 3 July is the birthday of Leoš Janáček, and I'm happy I had a meaningful DYK in 2021: thank you for did for his article! - It's also the birthday of Franz Kafka, and I uploaded pics from his family's album seen in Berlin. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:09, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Gerda . I scrolled through your page of stories and I must say ... your choice, variety and variability of topics, overall beauty and aesthetic of your contributions is so close to my heart like nothing else on Wikipedia. I'm sending you my favourite and most beautiful piece from On an Overgrown Path, it's performed by lesser known but excellent Jan Jiraský, who connects very well the lyrical expression and urgent or maybe even anxious rhythmical contradiction present in many of Janáček's works in one moment. Enjoy and ... be well. Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 08:42, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
blushing - thank you for understanding! I listened with joy! The closest I came to Janáček was singing the Glagolitic Mass in choir, understanding how his music is language-driven and so expressive. Seeing the Vixen (not cunning, not little) in Munich was also great. - I added a few images, - keep looking at story music places, - for example today's music matching the Italian tenor of the story. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:29, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Libuše Domanínská - yesterday's story - would have turned 100 today, but I missed that ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:15, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Of course I know that name, although I'm not the biggest opera fan. Good article, thank you :) Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 11:21, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! - Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:43, 9 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:30, 16 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:08, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Gerda - that's wonderful work. You should work for Grove! Wikipedia is lucky to have you :) Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 12:55, 23 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia:Main Page history/2024 July 30b had a baritone, a violinist, a composer and a Bach cantata, - almost too much, and the composer's article, Wolfgang Rihm, improved much over the last days, could still grow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:38, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gerda. So Wolfgang Rihm died? A very well known name among contemporary composers. Sad news... but also an inspiration - to listen to his work tonight. Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 12:55, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes. I just began an article on one more of his operas, translating, Oedipus. There are several red links in his article, and the works' articles. A Question

edit

Hi Vejvančický, how are you? The Transylvania events in 1848-49 was obviously complex and tragic. In an attempt to not falling into the trick of favoring or blaming either ethnic/nationalistic narratives (be it Hungarian or Romanian), being balanced and neutral is the key. So I wonder where would be the best places (book) to get a full picture of what happened in Transylvania between 1848-49 or probably other preludes to it? I am only asking this because the article posted on EN wiki is far from it. 2604:3D09:D07F:E580:0:0:0:A28A (talk) 21:16, 10 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm ok, thanks. I touched the article 1848–1849 massacres in Transylvania during a deletion discussion back in 2010(!). I have no knowledge of Romanian or Hungarian, so I'd stick to English literature on G-books or JSTOR. The ethnic perspective/point od view is often a problem in this part of Europe. I agree that the article is far from being perfect, I just added some reliable information proving there's a room for expansion. I'm no expert in this area. Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 06:39, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your response. It seems the ethnic perspective/point od view is often a problem in areas where complexities of multi-ethnicity are involved and history has been way too complex to use ethnic/national narratives as explanation. For instance, I read that there were "complex grey areas" in Hungarian Revolution 1848-49 when armies of both sides were racially and linguistically mixed (common sign for multi-national states), soldiers (and officers) were recruited or join for various reasons (volunteer, forced conscription, batter pay, employment etc.), not simply a case of who support XX side. the problematic discipline of different armies (be it regular or militia) and disregard for human lives and values (in comparison to today's world, but even today's world these problems still exist unfortunately) also presented a major challenge back then. The longer one's fighting the longer one could have become more insensitive. For instance, I've read it after being routed at Novara 1849, there were stragglers of Sardinian army who felt bitter because of being "involuntarily" conscripted for fighting the war, and they looted their own countrymen from villages as they passed through. And Novi Sad's population fell from 20000 to 7000 (including those who returned later) and 3/4 of town was devastated. 2604:3D09:D07D:6250:F0C9:ABF4:13C8:1D11 (talk) 17:51, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
followed the last paragraph, ...and 3/4 was devasted after heavy bombardment and then being captured by Hungarians in 1848-49 War. There were cases of the battlefield close to village and casualties of civilian population occurred as a result... Really sad. 2604:3D09:D07D:6250:F0C9:ABF4:13C8:1D11 (talk) 17:56, 20 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Jiří Suchý, a true legend

edit

Hello Antonín, I have had a brief look at your article on Jiří Šlitr, which I find really good. Would you please consider expanding the article on Jiří Suchý, too? The condition whereof is rather embarrassing, given the renownness of the personality, albeit in the Czech and Czechoslovak milieu. In other words, do we need to provide English information on him and his merit only after he passes away? I daresay he deserves a much better and larger entry, but my own Wikipedia editting skills are, mildly speaking, insufficient. Thank you for considering the issue, of course if you have enough time for it. Srdečně, Zinædryl kinéaedrilleur (talk) 18:34, 30 September 2024 (UTC) After all, the Master turns 93 tomorrow!Reply

Hi, I always liked Šlitr more than Suchý but I admit that Suchý is a legend of Czech theatre. I'd like to expand, but as you say - I don't have enough time to focus on it. Maybe one day ... would you mind to check the grammar if I do so? I'm loosing contact with English written word and I think it is more and more visible in my contributions :( Wikipedia needs excellent writers.
