Change of date of death

edit

Victor Jara was seen in life September 15 and was found dead September 16, which I believe should therefore be counted as date of death. Md2perpe (talk) 19:25, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

He was murdered not simply dead --Filippos (talk) 10:58, 22 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Other artists

edit

Victor Jara should be better related to the Parra family.See The link to Scandinavia is through Arja Saijonmaa who made a famous recording of Vileto Parra: Gracias a la vida. She was elected representative to the Swedish Parliament, and sung this in Jacob Palme's funeral. But her flat-mate for many years was a Norwegian published, that put her in touch with the Lillebjørn Nilsen and other Scandinavian artists. Sweden and Scandinavia received very many refugees from Chile, providing her with talented musicians. Arja Saijonmaa should be included in the references, but I do not know how! Songs about Victor Jara

edit

I've noticed that the list of songs about Victor Jara is not the same in English and in French. I can mention Jean-Francois Lessard, a singer from Canada (Quebec Province) who have a song named Victor (see iTunes). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.23.15.42 (talk) 01:30, 22 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

The american folk (punk) musician, Ryan Harvey, has a song called 'La Pena' from the album 'BlowBack' is about Victor Jara[1]. Also, the swedish punk band Lycka Till has a song called 'Listening to Victor Jara.[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.82.29.60 (talk) 00:08, 6 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

US backed coup.

edit

staged a coup with the help of the U.S. through the Chilean military. This is incorrect and should be removed. Read U.S._intervention_in_Chile#1973_coup and here 1973 Chilean coup d'état, these contradict Hitchen's and are well sourced and well written pages. There is no proof the US directly helped in the coup. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 09:27, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

That content is well-sourced using WP:RS.Jeppiz (talk) 10:11, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is incorrect as I have clearly shown by linking to the actual pages on the subject which are well written and sourced. These entire pages contradict this source.

The Trial of Henry Kissinger may be a reliable source on Kissinger but it is probably not regarding the Chilean coup. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 10:30, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

You claiming that it's incorrect does not make it incorrect. If you want to challenge what a source says, you're in your full right to do at this talk page. However, you have not "clearly shown" anything, you have quite simply removed sourced content [1], [2].Jeppiz (talk) 10:59, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Read U.S._intervention_in_Chile#1973_coup and here 1973 Chilean coup d'état. They show that Hitchen's assertion is incorrect that the US directly helped. These pages are better sources on the coup d'etat. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 11:05, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
First, please indent your comments. And I read those articles, I would not say they are better sourced. They rely on surprisingly few sources.Jeppiz (talk) 11:13, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
They are certainly better sources on the Chilean coup than Hitchen's kissinger book. 89.168.113.120 (talk) 11:16, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I would not say that, no. Not necessarily worse, but not better either. Nothing decisive there that would justify throwing out the source here.Jeppiz (talk) 11:20, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

There are a few periodicals in the first part, but other than that, the largest text (with the footnotes) is a direct rip of this very article... czar  04:59, 14 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Multiple references to "hands", no explanation

edit

I was told by a Chilean immigrant to the US that Jara had his hands cut off before he was murdered - if someone has an RS for that it would help explain the references. It might only be a commonly held belief; if not the reliable sources are probably in Spanish. Thanks for your attention. The most effectual Bob Cat (talk) 01:32, 29 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Even though Diario Libre publisheg article noting that Barrientos will be deported rather than extradition, they also repeatedly note that EFE wrote it without issue

edit

Doesn't seem likely a copyright issue. They never hide EFE references and even claim "explained to EFE." [3].Speakfor23 (talk) 05:36, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
