the reason why I created funicular railways of valparaiso with the word railway in there - is the materials I collected in valparaiso in 2009 had the term in english in tourist materials. So whether the title was clumsy, as you put it... the various source material did not necessarily always omit the word railway. cheers JarrahTree 14:39, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

@JarrahTree, sorry I didn't mean to hurt anyone, I'm sorry my wording. Funicular railways and funiculars are interchangable synonyms and across the Wikipedia funiculars are more common. Frankly speaking tourist materials aren't the best reference, but the native sources doesn't even call them Spanish: Funicular. Nothing to do with feeling (nyet) - much more to with commonly found items in material readers of wikipedia might have in their particular vocabulary - we should really aim to make sure that we do not get too specific with preciseness of a term or definition if it is going to obscure or lose the item - so redirects for the synonyms are very important - if we do that, all is well - (horrosho!) @JarrahTree I do fully agree with you. Actually, the term funicular appears to be more common among the academic sources as well. There is a tendency to use funicular railways if one needs to put emphasis on the railway part --Vаdiм (talk) 15:41, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
