Deletion proposal
editThis page should be edited to remove any copyvio rather than deleted, as this individual was one of the greatest Hindustani musicians of all time and our encyclopedia thus should have an article on him. It's much better if the editor who tagged this article do this rather than attempt to delete the entire article. Badagnani (talk) 17:52, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Very bad
editThe editor who summarily deleted this page after approximately 1 minute should have taken the time to revert it back to a version without any copyvio material. Ignorant editors who add such material should not cause us to delete entire articles on very notable individuals, when with 5 to 10 minutes an editor can remove any such material and restore an article to health for our readers, who rely on us as the best encyclopedia available. - There was no such version. Now the article can start anew. The copyright infringement was severe, don't attack the administrator for that. Hekerui (talk) 18:22, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Please show me the discussion that led to the conclusion that there was no such version, and explain why you did not take the few minutes it would have taken to ensure that the article was free from copyvio, rather than deleting it entirely within 1 minute? Doing so was very bad. Badagnani (talk) 18:25, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- I did not delete the material, an administrator did. The explanation is provided in the page log. Hekerui (talk) 18:30, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
It should not have been done. I made a Discussion page posting requesting prior work and discussion on this article before deletion, yet it was deleted within 1 minute, and my Discussion page posting apparently completely ignored. That was very wrong and you should not engage in such editing in the future. We must keep our users foremost in our minds at all times when editing. Thank you for this consideration. - Copyvios are strictly forbidden here on Wikipedia, whether it's here for a second or an hour or maybe even days. It should have been done and it was right for the administrator to do it. Calling edits "very bad" and "very wrong" can be considered a personal attack, especially when it was perfectly reasonable to do so (your RFC tells of many, many issues similar to this). - This is not a copyvio. Rather, the site india.tilos.hu/english_gh_imdad.html has been copying the bio of the Khans. I am pretty sure of this, as I and User:Shmitra started Alauddin Khan's bio here in 2005, writing from scratch. An Internet archive search of the .hu site shows that the site did not have the English articles at least until after 2007. While copyvios are absolutely not allowed in Wikipedia, not being able to catch a reverse copyvio of a copycat site is not also acceptable.
- Further evidence that the .hu site has clearly copied the English versions : I checked the Hungarian version of the pages (Which existed before 2007 and also exist now), and they do not match the English versions newly added there. Anyway, being involved in the Alauddin Khan bio from the beginning, I can definitely state that it was not a copyvio, and neither is this one.
- I have restored this article for now. Deleting admins need to be careful and check for reverse-copyvios. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 07:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Well, there were still many paragraphs copied from a copyrighted source, http://www.medieval.org/music/world/vk.html I removed them. This article needs to be rewritten with sources. Hekerui (talk) 08:55, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, I agree with your observation about the medieval.org link, these were added by an anon in February. --Ragib (talk) 08:57, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
