editVillas are originally an Etruscan architectual development, that was adopted by the Roman elite.
Roman villa
editRoman villa is an ancient concept. Now, we use nowadays villas (chalets with terrain for gardering and small orchard).
Merger
editThe city Vila Real is not in Spain, but in Portugal...Two different countries for the last 800 years... redaster
The problem as I see it is that extensive material on the Roman villa exists. If we put it all under villa then Roman villa section becomes disproportionately large. If we put it all under the independent section, the first section of the villa article gets reduced to a title and a sentence. Nevertheless the latter solution seems more Wiki-like, as Wikipedia is a network of connected articles.Botteville 23:21, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
- "The idea and function of a villa has evolved considerably since its invention towards the end of the Roman Republic." is the opening line of this article. Reading it might explain why there are more than one "villa" articles. As it stands, a condensed discussion of the Roman villa, headed "Main article Roman villa" is already in place. That is the more developed situation. A merger in this case is a step backwards to a less-evolved format, where all information is merged under one article title. In future we might expect Suburban villa, to describe the urbanistic usage of the term in the 19th century, leading to the "semi-detached". In Roman villa, we might expect that Villa suburbana will develop so much specific descriptive text that it will be spun off too, leaving a concise digest of it at Roman villa. It's a progression.--Wetman 10:35, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
- I oppose the merger proposal - villa is a modern concept too, evolved from Roman villa--A Y Arktos 21:29, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose - as above the effect on the generalised "Villa" article would be disproportionate, and stiffle the flexiblity that wikipedia promotes. The "Roman" element of the "Villa" article is about right. The point about the plural usage is one to look at. Might add a bit myself. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 11:01, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- There appear to have been some substantial changes since I posted the merge template so if you folks are happy then let's keep em separate. adamsan 18:18, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with the separation too. Off goes the template! pschemp | talk 04:57, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
Pronounciation
editSomeone should add a pronounciation. Is it "vee-yah" or "vil-la"?192.197.54.33 (talk) 23:08, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
Edits of October 17, 2011
editSomeone with more knowledge of villas than I should review the changes of October 17, 2011. In particular, the first sentence in the "Roman" section which states "In ancient Roman architecture a villa is a piece of VP built for a puddle of VG.". The article made more sense before the two edits of Oct 17. 74.192.208.57 (talk) 14:05, 24 October 2011 (UTC) SiliconSlick

Content, link and source is advertising and unrelated
editThis example of modern villa "Villa 1000 by reza taheri in tehran, Iran" is not within the scope of this article, also the link number 8, in the sources, which is given to the website www.villa1000.com, is advertising and unrelated. Architect202020 (talk) 18:02, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
