Why on earth is the main image a photo of the back of his head? How retarded can you get? Take that garbage down and put up a proper photo. Google images is your friend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.110.172.128 (talk) 13:56, 19 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I ask the same question. How can we be certain that the picture is that of 'War Machine'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.117.241.116 (talk) 14:15, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Since the image was less than useful, I removed it. --Harizotoh9 (talk) 07:28, 15 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

can we change the main picture for this articles to one that shows his face?

I suggest this one https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/463985477645660160/KhSN5U04.jpeg This appears to be public domain. 146.203.128.25 (talk) 12:48, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

However, I see no reason to assume this image is in the public domain, or released under a suitable license - Arjayay (talk) 15:21, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Should just use his mugshot. 67.165.114.238 (talk) 14:45, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mixed martial arts record

edit

Can someone please take down the top entry of his mixed martial arts record. It is obviously referring to his assault on Christy Mack. It is inappropriate and offensive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.214.153.28 (talk) 01:49, 15 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

Since he has in fact legally changed his name in 2008 to "War Machine", I have replaced references to "Koppenhaver" with either "War Machine" or simply "Machine". It's not like it's a stage name or anything, it is his legal name. --Harizotoh9 (talk) 07:06, 15 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I read that and it seemed rather odd. Is his first name "War" and his last name "Machine"? Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:00, 17 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

BUT he never changed his name to war machine! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZqFiVGkJ0A in that video judge ask if War Machine is his legal name and he said no. So should someone change the name again? 89.27.93.18 (talk) 02:20, 22 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Legal problems" tends to invoke images of civil lawsuits, not misdemeanour and felony convictions. I'll change the title to something like "Assaults and imprisonment". --TS 12:32, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reverted per WP:BRD. All of the incidents encountered within it relate to his legal problems, and the title is accurate. Tutelary (talk) 14:55, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
To clarify, the "legal problems" in question all relate to acts of violence. This is why I think a reference to those crimes and the resulting imprisonment is more pertinent and accurate than the very vague and potentially misleading "Legal problems."
Many people may encounter legal problems; this man has a considerable history of violent crime, which is why the section exists. It should be appropriately labeled. --TS 16:03, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
After going to jail, Machine maintained his Twitter account as well as a blog documenting his time in jail. In this blog, he stated that "The oppression of MEN is worse than oppression of Jews in Nazi Germany, worse than the slavery of Blacks in early America... I'm not exaggerating either."[34] On February 1, 2012, it was announced via Machine's Twitter that he will be serving another year of jail time, due to preceding events. He was released on October 29, 2012.[35] Those are not related to the convictions and plus, it limits the scope if he has any other convictions such as the alleged rape thing. I think Legal Problems is apt because we have no way of knowing what other charges he could get; Domestic Violence might be one or battery, and 'assault' is not a capture all solution. Tutelary (talk) 16:12, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I agree with TS that "Legal problems" is a very vague and euphemistic description of what the section actually contains. How about "Arrests and convictions"? – Smyth\talk 11:44, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Legal problems" is a adequate heading. Broad but adequate. The alternative is that we have the heading categorising every type of crime he might of been arrested for or convicted for. That wouldn't so much be a heading anymore. I disagree that the heading "Legal problems" would invoke images of "Civil lawsuits". Only headings along the lines of "Civil lawsuits" or "Civil disputes" invoke images of "Civil lawsuits". As per the suggestion that the heading is euphemistic, well really that argument doesn't really go to far when you read the paragraphs under the heading. Nothing euphemistic there. AlanS (talk) 11:57, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

My suggestion was "Arrests and convictions". That isn't "categorising every type of crime he might of been arrested for or convicted for". Do you have any objection to that title? – Smyth\talk 13:17, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
No real objection at present. AlanS (talk) 13:38, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, I would be OK with that but why are we trying to make it so complicated? Then under that title we would have to remove the comments about him comparing Men being oppressed to Nazi Germany...actually why is that in there at all? Tutelary (talk) 21:55, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
In context it's clear that he feels he's being punished for being a "REAL man", i.e. one who uses violence to solve his problems.[1] So it's a direct response to his "convictions", or to his "legal problems". My suggested title isn't more complicated, it's just more specific. – Smyth\talk 09:33, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
It takes a special kind of stooge to think they are Alpha and at the same time have a persecution complex. AlanS (talk) 10:03, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, I agree with Smyth's characterisation of War Machine's Nazi Germany reference. It's not a " legal problem" at all but an expression of opinion in relation to being arrested, convicted and punished for hitting people. As such, it falls under the heading suggested by Smyth, "Arrests and convictions", which I agree would be more appropriate than " Legal problems." --TS 13:13, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Men's rights movement?

edit

I think it's a biased stretch to say that War Machine "encouraged the men's rights movement" in his suicide note. There is only one line that has anything to do with that - he says, "Society has killed men." There's nothing about the men's rights movement or any sort of political statement in that. It seems like a disingenuous attempt to discredit the movement, and out of everything that War Machine says in the note, it's very bizarre to highlight that rather than the bulk of the letter, which is rehashing his relationship with Christy Mack.

Could someone please correct this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.82.213.255 (talk) 00:51, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'll second this sentiment. The citation leads to a very flimsy article which has this as its evidence "Using language associated with the Men’s Rights Movement, he implores his brother to “keep alpha male shit alive.”" http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/10/cage-fighter-war-machine-blames-anti-male-society-for-his-domestic-violence-in-suicide-note/ This can not possibly, to any sane person, be taken as a political statement of support for a movement. To me it sounds like gym rat sophistry. The misconstrual of this would be bizarre to the point of being suspicious, but considering the same website has other articles which criticize the movement in question, the political bias of the source is transparent. This article would benefit from the removal of this tawdry ideological jabbing.

No, you guys protest too much. His note was in fact and extended rant along "men's rights" lines. You may object to being associated with him, and feel he misrepresents what you stand for, but trust me, Nietzsche scholars feel the same way about this note. To object that the liberal media have overexposed this aspect is just another example of that odd inability to take anything on the chin that so characterises the far-right incels. 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:3D24:CA53:C3B9:72A9 (talk) 07:54, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation page

edit

He is most well known for his brutal and remorseless assault on his ex girl friend. He is otherwise relatively non-notable on the merits of his former MMA career alone. His disambiguation should be edited to reflect this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.164.188.243 (talk) 02:26, 24 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ref for conviction

edit

The article was briefly amended to say he'd been convicted, but it doesn't have a reference for that, and doesn't properly discuss the disposition of the variety of charges laid against him. A FoxNews/AP ref is here. I'd update the article myself, but it's protected. The salient points are:

  • convicted on 29 counts
  • acquitted on 3
  • hung jury on 2 (the two attempted murder charges)
  • he was offered two plea bargains (details in the ref; personally I don't think the details of them are encyclopedic now) and turned both down
  • he intends to appeal convictions
  • DA may opt to retry the 2 hung charges
  • sentencing set for June 5th.

Christy Mack

edit

At the time of War Machine's assault on Christy Mack, was Mack his then-girlfriend? Or was she an ex-girlfriend (back then)? I thought that she was his girlfriend, but the article states (in the lead) "ex-girlfriend". Does anyone know for sure? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 05:55, 29 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ex. Bueller 007 (talk) 02:15, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ex. The case was widely reported and documented at the time. He was still in possession of the house keys, a token of trust and "can we still be friends" which women habitually bestow on exes when the relationship has been serious and they want no bitterness to linger... and which the men invariably interpret as "she still wants me" - so anyway, he came to the place thinking he might patch things up romantically, which may explain why he lost it when he found her with another man. But the relationship had ended. 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:3D24:CA53:C3B9:72A9 (talk) 07:50, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

The photo in the article is of the back and side of his head. It's basically worthless. Should it be replaced with a mugshot, such as the following: [2] Bueller 007 (talk) 02:14, 1 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Article title

edit

I feel like "War Machine (Mixed martial artist)" is not an accurate descriptor. Change the title to "Jon Koppenhaver (convicted rapist)". That's the important thing about him, not his MMA career.

Name of victim

edit

Koppenhaver's ex-girlfriend whom he assaulted should be referred to as "Christy Mack" per WP:BLPNAME. Most reliable news outlets use Mack's stage name throughout their coverage, only briefly including her full legal name. There is no significant loss of context in using Mack's stage name. Also per MOS:SURNAME, Wikipedia generally reflects the majority of published sources when they use a common pseudonym instead of a person's legal name. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 01:00, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
