Corrections as per Reference in Demographic section

edit

Earlier it was only Jats are concentrated in this region and "comprise nearly 40 per cent of the population in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Bijnor districts" of Western Uttar Pradesh. However when i checked the reference it said "the Jats, Ahirs, Yadavs and Kurmis. he Jats, Ahirs, Yadavs and Kurmis. These castes comprise nearly 40 per cent of the population in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Bijnor districts. Rajputs and Tyagis, also cultivate their own land and consider themselves to be the Jats. So I made the changes and corrected as "these various castes are concentrated in this region and "comprise nearly 40 per cent of the population in Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Bijnor districts" of Western Uttar Pradesh." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Baba Ovian (talkcontribs) 00:13, 19 August 2013 (UTC) Baba Ovian (talk) 00:46, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Too much casteism in demographic section

edit

I am cleaning this section which currently is politically written and describes only castes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Baba Ovian (talkcontribs) 00:22, 19 August 2013 (UTC) Baba Ovian (talk) 00:46, 19 August 2013 (UTC) --Baba Ovian (talk) 00:46, 19 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Article on Western Uttar Pradesh is misleading

edit

This wikipedia article has the following problems:

- It makes out as if Western Uttar Pradesh is a distinct state entity. E.g. when quoting the census report which is wrongly attributed to the govt site, which does not differentiate or demarcate Western Uttar Pradesh from Eastern or Central Uttar Pradesh.

- At other places it treats Western Uttar Pradesh as a well-defined, distinct cultural and geographical identity, which it is not, and also ignores the fact that the earliest mention of this region (only as a loose entity) does not go beyond a couple of decades ago. Which means that it is not a historical entity and is a post green revolution phenomenon. To this day, there is no formal definition of this sub-region, and hence it remains a loose entity. Every author, reporter etc. attributes its own interpretation to this region.

- It negates the immense cultural, geographical, political, administrative and linguistic affinity that western Uttar Pradesh shares with the rest of Uttar Pradesh, and in this, there is the danger that it looks more like the political, often misleading propaganda of those who seek a separate Harit Pradesh. Most of the references provided to reinforce these differences are scanty and at times totally misleading (like the census report), drawing huge and often misleading conclusions from these references, making this article unencyclopedic.

- The article fails to point out that the loose sub-dividing of Uttar Pradesh into Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh is a very recent phenomenon, and that today, there are actually 3 to 5 such divisions, including a Central Uttar Pradesh. The article clubs the rest of Uttar Pradesh as "Eastern Uttar Pradesh" which it claims is similar to Bihar, whereas, its only Purvanchal which has an affinity with Bihar.

- Also ignored is the fact that the various sub-regions of Western Uttar Pradesh are actually historically and adminstratively distinct from each other, whereas, they're actually a part of regions that this article clubs under "Eastern Uttar Pradesh," but are actually defined differently. Eg., Eastern Rohilkhand, which is clubbed into "Eastern UP" is an integral part of Rohilkhand, which is otherwise clubbed into Western UP, arbitrarily annexing it. Likewise, The entire stretch from Saharanpur to Allahabad is part of the historical region known as (Ganga-Jamuna Doab), and the article pretends as if these affinities never existed, by failing to point these out. In other words, this article is seeking to redefine the sub-regions of UP, but at the same time pretending as if Western Uttar Pradesh has always been this single entity.

- The map of Western Uttar Pradesh provided here is totally incongrous with the map that has been officially submitted by the Uttar Pradesh government seeking its reorganization. Most of the districts this article/ map lists as Western Uttar Pradesh falls into the proposed Awadh Pradesh.

Please discuss this matter and settle this as per the guidelines of Wikipedia (Awadhi (talk) 19:13, 19 December 2013 (UTC))Reply

What reliable sources are you basing that claim on? - Arjayay (talk) 10:38, 30 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Regarding to the population of castes

edit

Hi ! @Arjayay , I am adding you as that you I saw your reply on this talk page.

Regarding Jat population every news paper shows different data & mostly data comes from the author POV not by stats. Like below :

This article says : Jats are 17 %

This article says : Jats are 7 %

This article says West UP as Jat majority region is myth.

All these articles which are saying Jats are 17% are used in this article are website Jatland.com which must be removed on site as written in the page of Sitush. Lotus109 (talk) 18:41, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Lotus109 Jatland is definitely unreliable & this has been confirmed at WP:RSN. Stats from caste associations are also unreliable, and those are often what newspapers report. Aside from the 2011(?) caste census, I can't think of any source which might be acceptable ... and even that is just what people claimed to be. - Sitush (talk) 19:20, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Do Census before 1947 is reliable or its is considered as RAJ source ? Lotus109 (talk) 19:23, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Lotus109 Those are not reliable. Census of India prior to independence explains much. - Sitush (talk) 21:21, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Got that as I am going to add 1931 census figures thanks for clarification. Lotus109 (talk) 21:47, 8 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
you are spreading hate about jats by referring to a wrong article which targets a particular community and at the same time praising brahmins by adding them with tyagis and saying they form 17%, which is wrong. Please don't spread hate about a particular community. Piyush Chikara (talk) 17:33, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
