Comedian ??

edit

Is Steve Merchant a 'comedian' ? Or a comic actor, and multi-award winning writer ? I'm going to change the article and see what happens. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.25.50.153 (talk) 12:56, 5 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Move

edit

I think this should be moved to Wheatley (Portal), (Portal being the series he's from). It's slightly shorter (though not by much) and ties in with Chell if she ever gets her own article. Harry Blue5 (talk) 11:28, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Because Wheatley only appears in Portal 2, doing it as such may be confusing to readers. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 17:50, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Appearances

edit

I am relatively new here, so I don't want to edit the main article on my own. The Appearances section contains an overuse of the word "eventually", when it is not really required, everyone can understand that these things are not happening at the same time. "They eventually escape into the turret construction facility, where they eventually form a plan to replace a good template of a turret which is used for all turrets with a defective turret, ensuring that the turrets are no longer deadly. They also succeed in disabling GLaDOS' neurotoxin emitters and eventually return to her lair where she discovers that both of her methods of killing have been disabled." Overall 5 uses. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.146.162.210 (talk) 20:56, 7 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

First draft, man. Don't worry; the flow will be fixed... eventually. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 21:13, 7 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

This section is also overly detailed, I think. It reads almost like a play-by-play and is to the level of needing a spoiler-alert notice. Crimson667 (talk) 15:15, 28 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

WP does not employ spoiler alerts nor concern ourselves if we are spoiling something. (WP:SPOILER) --MASEM (t) 15:19, 28 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
The section is still overly detailed. We only need to have general descriptions of where Wheatley has appeared (Portal 2, Skyrim, Spike TV) not a fairly detailed overview of the plot of Portal 2. We can link the appearance to the main article on Portal 2 which more appropriately can provide plot details. --Jaiotu (talk) 11:12, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Analysis

edit

In my opinion the "analysis" is a weak attempt of a so called social "scientist" to latch on a topic that has some public interest. In my opinion does not deserve mention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.233.69.164 (talk) 14:41, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

He's not a scientist, he's an English Professor, and the source has a strong editorial policy. It provides a good perspective from someone unaffiliated with the industry (though he likely still plays games as a hobby, I imagine). - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 19:00, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree, the "analysis" feels forced and out of place here. It certainly doesn't require its own section, if it belongs here at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.131.44.55 (talk) 07:58, 28 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Before even coming to the discussion I was wondering WTF. One obscure professor does not deserve a whole section here linking Wheatley to some sinister political fantasy. Removed. JettaMann (talk) 14:15, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

No spoiler warning

edit

This is a good article, however, the opening sentence actually reveals a significant plot detail that somebody who doesn't know the plot would not have intially known. Wheatley only becomes an "antagonist" halfway through. Should this be changed? Or at least put a spoiler warning in somewhere. Just suggesting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.5.234.101 (talk) 22:32, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

We don't use spoiler warnings as per WP:SPOILER, WP:NODISCLAIMERS & WP:CODI. Jarkeld (talk) 22:41, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I compromised by calling him a character; his reception is in part on his later role in the game, but a lot of it is simply based on the humour, acting, etc. Besides, it's redundant, as him being the antagonist is mentioned later in the same paragraph. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 22:44, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

"In spaaaaaaace!"

edit

The following statement was taken out of the article on the grounds that the engraving is actually the "Space Core":

An unnamed official at NASA laser-inscribed Wheatley and his quote "In spaaaaaaace!" onto a circuit board, which was launched aboard JAXA's H-II Transfer Vehicle on July 20, 2012. NASA does not officially endorse the character Wheatley or Portal 2.
  • Pearlman, Robert Z. (23 July 2012). "'Portal 2' video game robot launched into actual space". Space.com. TechMediaNetwork. Retrieved 12 January 2013.

In the reference, it says "Portal 2 players may associate that quote with another of the game's personality cores, the so-called 'Space Core,' though Valve attributes it to Wheatley on their blog." Here is Valve's aforementioned blog statement. FallingGravity (talk) 19:34, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Since it's impossible to tell the core apart by the picture shows on the metal panel (no color), we have to work on the quote, and never does Wheatley say "in spaaaaaace" - that's space core, out and out. The fact that someone at P2's blog misattributed (even as noted by the secondary source), it happens. --MASEM (t) 20:48, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, digging through some more sources point out the error, such as Geekosystem and Game Rant. IGN just states that it's the space core without mentioning that the blog said it's Wheatley. FallingGravity (talk) 21:18, 12 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

About the core transfer

edit

In the third paragraph of Portal 2 in Appearances, it says that Chell and Glados must "subdue his programming" through the use of the 3 corrupt cores "to distract him", but aren't the cores attached to convince the announcer to initiate a transfer? Is "his programming" meant to refer to the announcer, because if so that seems a little vague. Additionally it says in the last sentence of paragraph 2 of the same part that during the fall GLaDOS calls Wheatley a tumor and that the scientists made him to generate bad ideas, but I'm pretty sure she says that before the fall. During the fall GLaDOS actually calls him "the dumbest moron that ever lived". TophatGuy14 (talk) TophatGuy14 (talk) 11:30, 5 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Way too much reception

edit

Do we really need 3-4 paragraphs just quoting different news sources saying very similar things about the character? Most reception sections just include a description of the overall impression and a few demonstrative quotes. Alikkss (talk) 14:40, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
