This article is confusing and should be divided up into different parts, and more stuff should be added. Remixed 23:59, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
It definitely reads like a book report. I would cut out most of the story and add info about the book itself (awards, praise, etc.) KyleGarvey 00:50, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Trailer Park Christian?
editWhile I have not seen the movie, does the descriptor "trailer park Christian" belong here? Is the belief system of the characters at hand have anything to do with the plot of the movie? Drkeithphd 02:21, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- I feel that this character's belief system is important to the plot. It is, however, more important in the book than the movie because the movie cuts out a lot of the plot for length purposes. She (Starr) becomes a Christian in an attempt to recover from her drug and alcohol problems and this is focused on throughout the time the main character lives with Starr. The description of the ending is incorrect, and was obviously written by someone who has not read the book. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.6.72.139 (talk) 08:02, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Correct about the ending, it has been changed. As for Christian, it is very key to Starr's character, but I can't find where the term "trailer park Christian" is used. I may have already removed it in my attempt to reduce the summary length. TrentStudent20 (talk) 02:27, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Whiteoleandercover.jpg
editImage:Whiteoleandercover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

It looks to me that a fair use rationale has been included, but I am not experienced enough to know if it fits all criteria. TrentStudent20 (talk) 10:37, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
Issues with Article
editThis article appears to be a very poorly written summary of the book, (Is 'uninterested' even a word? Shouldn't it be 'disinterested?'rather than any information on the author, awards the book has won, differences between the book and movie, etc. The writing style is very choppy, much like that of a young child in a hated book report. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.59.174.46 (talk) 01:12, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
Hello, I do agree with the complaint that this synopsis for this book is a little excessive and a bit too long. It could probably stand to be shortened a little. Also the link for "White Oleander. Making a Monster" interview with author on the Salon website is no longer functional. Thank you. Hollylake99 (talk) 00:56, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
Salon link is fixed, tone/style is fixed TrentStudent20 (talk) 23:34, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
Treatment of under-age relationships/pedophilia
editIn the book, Astrid has several sexual relationships with older men, starting when she is 14. Unlike in the movie, these are all explicitly consumated. I suspect editors will disagree about how these relationships should be referred to. I've called the first pedophilia and left the others as under-age relationships. Any thoughts appreciated. MacLaren's Children's Center
editThis is a real place, with a sordid history, & arguably notable. See "County Closes Center for Troubled Children"; the first link I found on Google was to a banned website. Our coverage of the foster system is inadequate in general. -- llywrch (talk) 17:53, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
