Early Influences/Parental Influences
editYoung grew up on the campus of the Lincoln Private School, that was administered by his father, for several decades. This was a blacks only school, funded by various white charities to promote the segregated education of young blacks, but rather transparently, to serve the Jim Crow purpose of "keeping 'em in their place." Job training and education was limited to menial, blue-collar preparation with no science and math classes. Surreptitiously, though, students were given various higher education opportunities and classes--and when there was a tour of the donor class, it was off to the fields, shop aprons, laundry, and janitorial work. Thus, graduates were uniquely prepared--knowing that significant levels of manipulation might be needed to meet important goals, along with an education that was, most likely, quite superior to that received by blacks not privileged to attend Lincoln. Young's education here, along with his father's administrative style, had to be a major part and a unique preparation for later Urban League activities, where he had the audience of many, major industrial leaders, who were exclusively Caucasian, at the time. Death?
edit49 is young to die, and yet there's no word about the circumstances of his death. Angr/talk 13:09, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
It might be fair to guess that he was a heavy smoker, as in many photographs, when appearing with others, he appears to be the only person who is smoking a cigarette.Homebuilding (talk) 00:04, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Young555.jpg
editImage:Young555.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

"inequality that held back African Americans"
editThe sentence "Young's work was instrumental in breaking down the barriers of segregation and inequality that held back African Americans.", seems to imply inequality that hold back African Americans have all, at last, disappeared. What do you think? Popol0707 (talk) 02:13, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
