because I've seen articles about car searches, & they're called wranglers, & I saw a video credit a milk wrangler, once. (Believe it, or not...) Trekphiler08:53, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

The use of the word wrangler at Cambridge wasn't abandoned in 1909 --- as of 2003, the class list for Part II of the Maths Tripos used the divisions Wranglers, Senior Optimes and Junior Optimes for people in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes respectively. I've edited the article to reflect this usage, and also removed the reference to the wooden spoon entirely, since the wooden spoon was given to the person getting the bottom 3rd, and by definition that person is not a wrangler.
Well, you removed sourced material and replaced it with unsourced material, so if you can't find a source, your material cannot stay until you do. We will be glad to accept your sourced edit if it improves the accuracy of the article, but until then, the sourced version stays and the person trying to change it has the burden of proof to show their version is better. I know that sounds a little snarky, but all you need is a source and we will be happy. Montanabw(talk)03:44, 11 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
However, I think that "These titles were officially abandoned by Cambridge University in 1909." is confusing because it is not entirely clear that "these" refers to "senior wrangler" etc. Rather than "wrangler". It is also unreferenced. I have replaced it with a more direct statement from the university's website. Francis Davey (talk) 20:16, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
