Name pronunciation
editCan someone add a mp3 file for the pronunciation of her name? It is a difficult name to pronounce for people that speak Spanish, and I wouldn't like to pronounce her name wrong (I don't know the weird letters that are written for phonemes, I never learned them and probably will never learn it well, and I guess many people don't know about it either, I think a mp3 file would be handy for everyone). 2800:810:453:8324:3CAC:EEC:67B5:1409 (talk) 15:34, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
Place of birth.
editAccording to archives of the Aldina News source, they originally stated that Gomez is of Mexican descent and "born in Canada".[1] But now the website states that she was born in Los Angeles, California?[2] In an interview with "The Mary Sue", she states that she is from California? That could leave some ambiguity because that could imply that she was born and raised in California or simply stating that she was raised/is from there?[3]
Is it possible that the original article was an error that was corrected later on? Unless there are other reliable sources which claim that she was born in Canada? Clear Looking Glass (talk) 05:50, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
Considering both California and Canada use the initials CA, maybe someone just made a small mistake? Metropod (talk) 06:14, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
Considering most places say Los Angeles, it is safe to say she was born in California. There is no Los Angeles, Canada. So I say drop the Canada. Capriaf (talk) 21:07, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
An article linked off her own Instagram right now, from Teen Vogue: "Gomez grew up in Los Angeles, raised by a father from Mexico and an L.A. native mother, and lived in Hollywood until she was five. She and her family later moved to Echo Park where she was brought up with a lot of Mexican influences, including bonding with the kids that she grew up with." So, I think it's safe say she's from L.A. --SGreenwell (talk) 00:40, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
So there are no sources for a claim of Canada? And there’s still a controversy? AndrewK760 (talk) 14:28, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
- It looks like the original article was a mistake, and that's the only one claiming Canada (originally). So I guess it's been resolved now. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 10:58, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
It's entirely unlikely that she was born in Canada rather than Los Angeles County… Trillfendi (talk) 21:36, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
The article in Portuguese still states that she is Canadian. 2804:14D:8084:9693:31B1:5645:2C31:9FA6 (talk) 12:48, 28 May 2023 (UTC)

- Article was recently promoted to GA. Hook is interesting and well cited. I decided to be WP:BOLD and added relevant links for the character and film – my only two gripes with the hook. Krisgabwoosh (talk) 18:55, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
Xochitl Gomez Deines
edithttps://www.instagram.com/reel/C7cnIFsSRyO/?igsh=MWxqbW5ha2EwYjdzcQ==
Per the reel of her walking the stage, Gomez is her paternal and Deines is her maternal. Should the top line be updated to reflect that?

- It would be better to get a reliable secondary source for that info. American born so legal American name won't include mother's surname, just father's. Her Mexican legal name will include both if her Mexican father registered her in Mexico as a foreign born Mexican. Up to her what she wants to use but it looks like she is sticking with her American name. Still speculating, don't know the facts of the situation based on an an image on social media. Geraldo Perez (talk) 00:10, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- It's from her own graduation, so, presumably, it's her legal name, but she dropped "Deines" for acting. --WTRiker (talk) 05:38, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- She also didn't use it for her Instagram account so Xochitl Gomez looks like more than just a stage name, more like the name she commonly uses for everything. Still would like a better source than interpreting a sign. Geraldo Perez (talk) 06:28, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
