editKrisnha and his clan did not belong to Yadav caste (ahir). His belonged to the royal tribe whose modern representatives are Jadauns and Bhatis. Enough of moonlighting.
it is not that, go and see yadav samaj sites and yadav mahasabha they have included "MAJOR SHAITAN SINGH BHATI" as a Yadav/ahir warrior. The only yadav to get param vir chakra was yogendra singh yadav in 1999 , they also included sanjay kumar name who is a DOGRA from jammu-rajaouri region in short "ANY RAJPUT WHO HAS ACHIEVED SOMETHING IS YADAV/AHIR BUT A RAJPUT WHO HAS ACHIEVED NOTHING IS A ONLY A RAJPUT" similarly lord krishna was not these yadavs/ahirs their descendants are chandravanshi rajputs such as jadaun and bhati come out of this screwed mentality yadav/ahirs. A rajput who achieve param vir chakra becomes yadav/ahir how because yadav claim themselves to be kshatriya(no evidence), why not claim mirza raja jai singh who use to clean the boots of aurangzeb no clan will claim him as he was a slave of mughals in short he is rajput and nobody will claim but rajputs such as shaitan singh bhati, sanjay kumar dogra they become yadav/ahirs infact you claim that lord krishna was ahir really funny all these tactics.122.161.78.118 (talk) 15:47, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

They all belong to Yadav caste
editAll those listed here belong to the Yadav caste (also known as Ahir). I have not known or heard about anyone in modern times with last name Yadav who does not belong to the Yadav caste.Malaiya (talk)
- Babulal Gaur, senior BJP politician in MP, forment Chief Minister[1] [2]
I have known from numerous newspaper articles, (as well as personal sources) that Babulal Gaur belongs to the Yadav caste. Sitush's insistence on sources based on his personal criteria, is unreasonable. I don't think many individuals are going to provide notarized affidavits certifying their case.
I have not know a single instance of an individual in recent times (or the past century) of a person with last name Yadav, who is not a member of the Yadav (Ahir/Gwala) caste.Malaiya (talk) 23:32, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

President Ram Baran Yadav is also a Yadav. That should not be a surprise to anyone from India or Nepal. Malaiya (talk)
- I couldn't care less whether or not it is a surprise. If he has not self-identified then we can't say it. Period. - Sitush (talk) 20:24, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Gollas are no way releated to Yadavas in gotras, surnames, and customs. There are many pastoral castes in India. Gollas is one of them. There cannot exist a single pastoral caste all over the country. A profession can be taken up as livelyhood by many castes. Two or more castes with a common profession are believed to belong to the same race. For this reason all other pastoral castes like Gollas, Kurubas, etc., are claiming to be Yadavas, who were being mentioned in great epic Mahabharat. So I strongly believe that Gollas may equate to yadavas by profession, not by race. Original Yadavas worship only Krishna, but from the middle ages other pastoral castes too started to worship Krishna along with their old gods. edit"This is a list of people bearing the name Yadav, some of whom may also be members of the Yadav caste that is found mainly in India and Nepal" implies that some of them are not a member of the Yadav caste. I would like to see something cited supporting that implication.Malaiya (talk)
- I'll turn the tables: find me a source that says everyone who bears the Yadav name is a member of the Yadav community and, more, acknowledges that membership. You cannot do it. This is a well-established principle on Wikipedia. The burden is on you and I'd advise you in particular to consider the points raised at User:Sitush/Common#Castelists. - Sitush (talk) 00:04, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

List purpose?
editThis list should be either of people whose commonly-used last name is Yadav (which is what the title suggests) or of people who belong to the Yadav community (which is what the lead suggests). It cannot be both, which seems to be what is happening.
If it is about the name then we need no sources. If it is about the caste then every entry needs a source which explicitly says the person is/was of the caste, and if the person is living then it must show them self-identifying as a member of the caste. - Sitush (talk) 20:48, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
Clean-up
editThis is a surname article. I found that many people not using this surname are included here. We can including only those people who have their name using Yadav surname or any alternative name, which uses Yadav surname. As for example Rajesh Ranjan is also known as Pappu Yadav, and he could be included here. But those individuals, for whom, no source is there to clarify that their alternative name is Yadav, we can't include them here.- Admantine123 (talk) 05:29, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
We should change the name of page to list of yadavs as people using yadav surname are yadavs and it would be a better list
editwe should change the name Nippu121 (talk) 09:21, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Change "Kumar Yadav(Judge)" to "Kumar Yadav (judge)", yes the only difference is a space and case change in the piped link which is ordinarily a cosmetic change that should be avoided, but in this case is needed as part of the WP:X3 process as the unspaced redirect will be deleted, thank you. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:D8AB:6E4F:C30A:2F8 (talk) 00:06, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
