editHow does this organisation and Yale Political Union differ ? - are some of the claims made here actually relate to them ? Codf1977 (talk) 10:00, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- They are entirely separate organizations. The Yale Debate Association is the university's only debating team. The Yale Political Union is a forum for speakers at the university. No claims made about the Yale Debate Association have anything to do with the Yale Political Union. MarmadukePercy (talk) 12:38, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- So, for example, can you provide a ref to show that John Kerry was a member of both, as both are claiming him as a past member. Codf1977 (talk) 06:16, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Here is a photo of John Kerry as a member of the rather small Yale Debate Team, coached at that time by Professor Rollin G. Osterweis.[1] I can assure you that the Yale Political Union was (and is) a far larger organization. Here is a photo of Kerry as president of the latter organization. [2] These are two separate photographs. Not everyone who is a member of the Yale Debate Association is a member of the Yale Political Union. Kerry happened to have been a member of both. MarmadukePercy (talk) 06:48, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Also, please note the following clip, in which it is explained that during the tenure of Yale Debate coach Rollin Osterweis, some undergraduates who studied with Osterweis and were members of the Debate team also chose to join the Yale Political Union (YPU). Kerry was such an undergraduate. [3] MarmadukePercy (talk) 07:04, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, just one point can you confirm that is is Yale Debate Team and not the Yale Political Union that sends a team to World Universities Debating Championship Codf1977 (talk) 13:22, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Just to affirm that MarmadukePercy is correct, 2 separate organisations. Dougweller (talk) 15:43, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

President
editSomeone keeps removing the "president" section in the top right to obscure the fact that the team has an interim president (Josh Leffler) as of 4/19/2023 due to the resignation of the previous president. Source: internal team email 1701yale (talk) 03:28, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Should the info box on the right contain the name of the interim president or should the "president" line be deleted to protect the team's privacy during an ongoing restructuring? 1701yale (talk) 14:51, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose inclusion per WP:V and WP:NOR until a secondary source can be found, as relying on internal team emails unless they've been publicized by the media, a journal or another reliable source is not reliable. Anyone can go around claiming that Kim Kardashian is the CEO of Apple and cite/make up an internal email, and while I have no doubt you have good faith, we would like to be as accurate as possible on Wikipedia and we can't really take chances while relying on internal emails. On Wikipedia, we call this original research, and it fails our policy on verifiability, readable here. That being said, I will support such inclusion if you can find a reliable source which demonstrates that Leffler is interim president. Consider maybe a public press release by the organization or an article from the New York Times. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 17:41, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
About the Third Opinion request: The request has been removed (i.e. declined) due to the RFC pending just above. Only one form of dispute resolution may be employed at the same time and as RFC is the "higher" form, the 3O has been removed. If the RFC fails to obtain consensus after it has run for its normal length of time - typically 30 days - then some other form of dispute resolution may be considered. — TransporterMan (TALK) 19:35, 21 April 2023 (UTC) (3O Volunteer)This is an informational posting only and I am not watching this page; contact me on my user talk page if you wish to communicate with me about this.
- Oppose. Until and unless the information is published in a reliable and independent source, it is not verifiable and does not merit inclusion. "Internal team email" is not an acceptable source. Seraphimblade Talk to me 15:20, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Close RfC to attempt to seek consensus on the talk page first per WP:RFCBEFORE. voorts (talk/contributions) 03:32, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
