Expansion needed
editThis needs to be expanded. The discography is woefully incomplete, and many important performances and projects Zakir Hussain has worked on are not even mentioned. Also, it is a stylistic wreck. Help this entry. Signing: 03:32, 10 March 2006 User:128.252.164.248
This is so incredibly overhyped it makes you queasy reading it. Cutting out the hype leaves about two words. This is the exact opposite of neutral. Signing: 06:53, 3 June 2006 User:83.248.158.242 talk
the article is almost entirely POV, there needs to be a more objective look at this man. I agree that he is a wonderful Tabla player, but an encylopedia article requires objectivity. Signing: 15:25, 25 May 2006 User:68.194.123.235
There is little to no mention of his work in hindustani music. He is far more than a popular musician who works with the Beatles and Bill Laswell, he is an active player of classical music. Signing: 15:32, 25 May 2006 User:68.194.123.235
Hype
editI tried to remove some of the hype; it remains for someone with a stronger stomach to do further cleaning. What is it about fans of Indian musicians? Must every one be the greatest, most distinguished, most revered, with the vastest talent, of the utmost importance? Signing: 00:14, 10 June 2006 User:Ferdinand Pienaar talk
They should also put in some of his students whom have made it far in the real world. Signing: 22:16, 11 August 2006 User:198.53.85.212 talk
ARGH
edit"He is widely considered as the world's best tabla player."
Please stop the madness! --IRONY-POLICE (talk) 17:35, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not saying it might not be a little POV and OTT, nor did I write that to begin with. But at the same time, the question remains - you ever heard the dude? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.128.190.96 (talk) 20:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Anyone in percussion know Zakir Hussain, or any fan of Middle Eastern music, or world music. He has appeared on at least two Grammy Award winning albums with Mickey Hart - Planet Drum and Global Drum Project - and has 2 films made about him. Any other tabla player you known with two films made about him? The only other tabla player I can think of with his level of fame might be Badal Roy. As to "widely considered as the world's best", I agree that's unsupported hyperbole (even though it's probably true). Zakir might say his father was better. Rosencomet (talk) 18:41, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- "Widely considered as" is not the same as "definitely is". As stated, it's true. There might be some dissent; some other player might be an alternative candidate for "best player", but he is "widely considered". What's needed is some citation for the statement.2600:6C50:800:DC1:81AA:8DE5:2F63:8C10 (talk) 17:39, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Cleanup 2009
editThe following issues have been identified as needing work with this article: --Lendorien (talk) 16:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Needs text editing - Currently has a very choppy tone.
- Awards section needs to be rewritten into prose to remove bullet points.
- Discography perhaps cropped down?
- Sourcing - Sourcing needs to be normalized with proper citation guidelines
- I see no reason at all to change the awards section into prose. It certainly won't make it more readable, nor make it easier to use as a reference. I also see no reason to reduce the discography; in fact, it can use expanding to include producers' names. The other two points are well taken: the text is choppy and hard to read, not so much an article as a collection of flat statements, and the citations need formatting according to wiki guidelines.
