Overall: Overall, I think this is looking good! I find the hook fascinating. I could have added the additional hook that he's the first Native American to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship, but the source is less credible for that claim.
User has fewer than 5 DYKs, so QPQ is not required.
@Significa liberdade and Lord Bolingbroke: The two sources supporting the hook in our article say "first contemporary" and "first living" - since firsts tend to get extra scrutiny can we solve this apparent discrepancy? Also the lead is not sufficient, consider expanding it so that it introduces and summarizes the article. Bruxton (talk) 17:04, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bruxton: For what it's worth, I found several sources that simply state Jackson is the first Native American photographer to be represented in LoC's collections without qualifying that as first contemporary or first living. From the University of Oregon: "Jackson became the first Native American to be represented in the collection of the National Library of Congress—as artist rather than subject—when the Prints and Photographs Division acquired a number of his images." [1] From Smithsonian: "[Jackson] was the first Native American photographer whose work was collected by the Library of Congress." [2] From the Portland Art Museum: "... [Jackson] was the first Native American photographer to enter the Library of Congress’ distinguished photography collection." [3] However, I would give more weight to LoC's own statement since they probably have a better knowledge of their collections than any of these other institutions. Would you be ok with changing the hook to "first contemporary Native American photographer" to align with the wording of the LoC source? – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 18:12, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
