André Furtado de Mendonça
edit- ... that King of the Jaffna Kingdom, Puvirasa Pandaram was killed by Portuguese Captain André Furtado in 1591?
Created by AntanO (talk). Self nominated at 18:12, 13 April 2014 (UTC).
-
- 1) The article is long enough, it was created April 13, and nominated the same day.
- 2) The article is 2319 characters (381 words) according to DYKcheck
- 3) The hook statement does not appear in the article and is not cited.
- 4) Hook is 106 characters, well below the 200 usually allowed.
- 5) I am concerned that the citations need work. Illustration File:André_Furtado_de_Mendonça.jpg is fine. I uploaded a cleaner version to Wikimedia Commons because the original uploader hasn't been active since 2012 and the book was available in digital version. The image could be added to this DYK.
- 6) I do not see a QPQ at present, but I do not know if the nominator has more than five DYKs.
- 7) There are typos (e.g. Caption for Captain as above).
- I think the article has potential, the subject is certainly interesting, but at this time, the article is not ready for DYK. Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:26, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
Done Could you have a look on hook again? It appears on 3rd paragraph in the article. I added the image in DYK. If it is not nice, you may remove. Nominator has less than 5 DYKs. Typos are corrected. --AntonTalk 17:09, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, the hook is now good and the typos fixed. Good job on adding the image to the nomination. There are only few things left I don't understand, one is this sentence "Portuguese initiation in Jaffna Kingdom was created freedom to Catholic Christian missions" and the other is that the quote in citation 8 just trails off and doesn't finish. I put some of the references into template form and linked them through to Internet Archive, please click all the links to be sure. Should the title of the church of his burial perhaps be capitalized? Otherwise, good changes! Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:54, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
- You are right. I've rewritten the sentences and corrected the quote in citation. I've capitalized the name of church as well placed the Portuguese name of the church. Remove it if it not appropriate. Do think that mentioning Portuguese vs. Ceylon words in the hook would interesting? Something like this - Portuguese Captain André Furtado killed Puvirasa Pandaram, the king of Jaffna Kingdom in 1591. Ignore the idea if it not nice. --AntonTalk 06:04, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- Good fixes! I have one more question. I'm so sorry, but every time I read one of my own articles I find more things to fix. Sometimes in the article you call the subject "Andre" and other times "Andre Furtado", you might wish to standardize that at "Furtado" since the only other one mentioned is his father and that's done with in the first paragraph only.
