Badajoz

edit

Siege of Badajoz

5x expanded by Dr. Blofeld (talk), Nvvchar (talk), Rosiestep (talk), and QatarStarsLeague (talk). Nominated by Dr. Blofeld (talk) at 19:19, 14 July 2013 (UTC).

  • 5x expansion and date verified. QPQ review verified. Image is free, though it is a bit of an indistinguishable mess at the DYK resolution. I would much rather see a hook which uses this image, which has good contrast. Perhaps:

  • Thanks for the review. ALT1 Hook is fine with us.--Nvvchar. 13:42, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Cool beans. ALT1 hook confirmed. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 12:25, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
  • I'm pulling this from the prep area. Great article expansion. My concern is that I can't find the hook fact (which was, BTW, approved by the user who proposed it -- not in accordance with DYK protocol) in the cited sources. --Orlady (talk) 14:13, 22 July 2013 (UTC) The original hook appears to be supported by a source, but the Fletcher reference that's cited isn't listed in the article's list of sources (and I spot-checked a few earlier versions of the article, but didn't see it in any of them). --Orlady (talk) 14:29, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
  • References fixed to original and alternative hooks. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 15:39, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks. The original hook is confirmed. The ALT1 hook is supported by this page on the website that is now cited, but not by the specific page that is cited. Additionally, it seems to me that it's a stretch to say that Ibn Marwan "founded" the city, as it's fairly clear that a settlement existed there long before his time. It does appear from the source that Ibn Marwan constructed the first city walls. The article says he's the "official" founder; it might be more accurate to say he's "considered" the founder. Suggested rewordings: ... that the city of Badajoz is officially considered to have been founded around 875 by Ibn Marwan (statue pictured)? or ... the official founding of the city of Badajoz was by Ibn Marwan (statue pictured), circa 875? --Orlady (talk) 16:06, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you very much. I agree with the above alternative suggestion. The new Alt2 Hook ...the official founding of the city of Badajoz was by Ibn Marwan (statue pictured), circa 875?--Nvvchar. 17:37, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Original hook and ALT2 (see Nvvchar's comment immediately above) are OK. --Orlady (talk) 17:54, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
