Cat Brooks

edit
  • ... that Oakland mayoral candidate Cat Brooks performs in a one-woman show about the killing of Natasha McKenna in police custody? Source: "Her 'Tasha'...is inspired by the story of Natasha McKenna, a schizophrenic young black woman who was killed in police custody in 2015."[1]
    • ALT1:... that Oakland mayoral candidate Cat Brooks was once arrested protesting the incumbent candidate Libby Schaaf? Source: "Cat Brooks laughs a little when she says that Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf once had her arrested. Now she wants her job...She was arrested alongside several others during a 2015 protest that challenged Schaaf's ban on night marches." [2]

  • Comment: I originally had ALT1 in mind since it's more interesting. But even though Brooks seems comfortable talking about it, I'm not sure if it would be unduly negative.

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Created 22 August. Seems notable to GNG standard. I like ALT1 and don't think it's negative; people like Brooks regard being arrested at a protest as a badge of honor. Catrìona (talk) 05:54, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: I was about to promote this, but I wonder if we are too close to the election date on November 6? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:18, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: WP:DYK says that this should be fine provided that it's more than 30 days before an election. Since the election is in November, provided that the hook is promoted before October 7, this should be okay. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 13:40, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
Cwmhiraeth, the longer before the election this is promoted and runs, the better, so I wouldn't delay. We are before the 30-day window, as Narutolovehinata5 notes. I would be cautious about using ALT1, though, since it mentions the incumbent mayor in a potentially unflattering light (that she may have needed to be protested against and that Brooks was jailed because of it), and that could be perceived as non-neutral.
