Unfortunately, it was nominated too late as per WP:DYKRULES: "At the time of nomination, an article must be considered new, which means it was created, expanded fivefold, or promoted to good article status in the seven days preceding a nomination." (CC) Tbhotch™ 19:21, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- DYK rules specifically allow nominations to be a day or two late, and this was nominated two days beyond the seven days. The review was incorrectly done, and is being superseded; the same with the subsequent closure. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:01, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- "D9 (newness IAR): The "seven days old" limit can be extended for a day or two upon request". I don't see such a request here. (CC) Tbhotch™ 02:23, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- While Tbhotch's literal interpretation of WP:DYKNEW might come across harsh, one of the leads here at DYK threatened to fail my nom for not immediately including QPQs. While contesting this review to offer SammySpartan a chance to make an extension request is ok, Tbhorch was following procedure as it is written. You can't fault them for that. ~ Pbritti (talk) 03:21, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- I think we need to revisit the wording if this is the result. In the case of a new user, the very fact of nomination from someone who doesn't know all the ins and outs should be sufficient evidence that the extension is desired. Since it hasn't been, I'm making a formal request on behalf of SammySpartan that a two-day extension be granted. Tbhotch, please proceed with a full review. Overall: @SammySpartan: A new* article that is long enough. The hook is interesting, but I find his contributions to women's ability to study at UW more compelling. There are no copyright issues with text or images. I AGF with the offline non-available sources. I couldn't verify "however, at the outbreak of the American Civil War, the teachers' institute program was canceled. Allen then became the Madison school superintendent, working for a $250 annual salary on the stipulation that he could continue teaching classes" with the provided source(s), so I added a cn tag. Additionally, the hook is not mentioned verbatim in the article: "The facts of the hook need to appear in the article with a citation no later than at the end of the sentences in which they appear." It is reworded and the source appears many sentences later. (CC) Tbhotch™ 05:04, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset,Tbhotch, and Pbritti, apologies for the late submittal, I usually wait a couple days after launching an article before I nominate to DYK review to allow both myself and others time to catch any obvious flaws, but then I went out of town for Thanksgiving and nominated the article later than intended. I'm more than happy to request an extension for this, if still needed.
As for Tbhotch's review, I'm more than happy to move forward with an alt (see below). For the claim you couldn't verify, it was taken from the Gilbert book that is referenced elsewhere in the article -- I've updated the article with the source. SammySpartan (talk) - ALT1... that Charles Herman Allen, opened the University of Wisconsin to female enrollment in 1863?
- Sounds good, but maybe his role needs to be specified in the hook? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:04, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- @User:Narutolovehinata5 Sure, I do want to avoid any implication that he was the President of the University of Wisconsin though. How about:
