- ALT1 ... that the baseball career of Charlie Bennett (pictured), reportedly inventor of the chest protector, ended when his legs were crushed by a train?
- ALT2 ... that in 1894 "Gentleman" Jim Corbett helped raise $6000 for catcher Charlie Bennett, reportedly inventor of the chest protector, whose legs had been crushed by a train?

- Any of the above ok by me. Cbl62 (talk) 03:18, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
- Expansion began on July 10 and is long enough (5,016 to 26,241 characters). Article is well referenced with no apparent close paraphrasing from online sources. I was unable to access any of the cited sources to verify the hook facts (sources are offline or unavailable) but could partially verify from other sources, so AGF. My preference is for the original hook, which is essentially the same as ALT1 but with better wording, IMO, but if the promoter feels differently any hook should be fine. 97198 (talk) 03:21, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
