Edward Tompkins

edit

Edward Tompkins circa 1871

Moved to mainspace by Chris troutman (talk). Self nominated at 00:17, 3 March 2015 (UTC).

  • @Chris troutman: The article is long enough at 2274 characters readable prose. It is new enough (nominated the day after it was moved to mainspace). The picture is free and shows up well at small size. It is neutral in tone and well supported with inline citations. I found no close paraphrasing, copyvio, or plagiarism. The original hook is the best of the three. I took the liberty of adding "the" before University of California, and removing the piped "Edward Tompkins (regent)" from the wikilink since the article name has been changed. However, I'm not sure about using "University of California, Berkeley" in the hook. Berkeley isn't mentioned anywhere in the article, only the University of California is. According to the WP article on University of California, Berkeley, back then there was just the University of California, which opened in Oakland in 1869 and moved to Berkeley in 1873 (after this bequest was made). I see that there's a hatnote at University of California, saying "not to be confused with its formerly synonymous first campus, the University of California, Berkeley". But I find it confusing that Berkeley in the hook and not in the article. Would it make sense to pipe the link thus: University of California? Also, the nomination should be for Edward Tompkins, not Edward Tompkins (regent). But that would be editing above the line...HazelAB (talk) 23:43, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
  • @HazelAB: I made the piped link change you've suggested. I created the DYK nom before the article was moved to its current location so I'll let BlueMoonset or one of the DYK members make the change on this nom. Chris Troutman (talk) 17:28, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
QPQ has been done, so it is good to go now. HazelAB (talk) 18:00, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
Note: have fixed the nomination template fields to reflect the article move. HazelAB, if there are any actual problems with either of the ALT hooks, be sure to strike them; otherwise, while the promoter will take into account your thoughts as to which hook is superior, he or she may prefer a different hook and promote it instead.
