- I'll review. First note: I believe this is more interesting when saying that it plays in Leeds / England, or that the man who died had migrated. Sourcing looks fine, will look closer soon. The last pic causes a lot of white space. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:08, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
- As a non-reviewer comment, I don't think naming the man adds anything. We could just say
of a Nigerian homeless man
to be more concise. Sdkb talk 17:28, 14 March 2024 (UTC)- ALT1 ... that in Leeds the 9-metre-tall (30 ft) sculpture, Hibiscus Rising (pictured), commemorates the death due to police harrassment

- Thank you for ALT1, as for the article, on fine sources, no copyvio obvious. I like ALT1, but it could still be stronger if "victim of race harassment" would show somehow. The image is licensed and a good illustration. - In the article, I suggest to give the location in the lead - not every reader will associate the cultural event with the town, and not every reader will look at an infobox (at least so they say). His cause of death could also be a bit clearer there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:46, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Careful not to inadvertently run afoul of WP:EASTEREGG by omitting David Oluwale's name in the ALT1 piped link. (I don't know how this applies in this case, though it's probably worth getting an expert opinion.) -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 13:08, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- ALT2 ...... that Hibiscus Rising (pictured), a 9-metre-tall (30 ft) sculpture in Leeds, commemorates the death due to police harrassment of David Oluwale?
- De-easter-egged, please could re-check Gerda Arendt? Lajmmoore (talk) 15:18, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Corrected typos in ALT2 (above). -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:55, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: I apologise for jumping-in after Gerda Arendt's green-lighting of the above. Truly didn't mean to sow chaos. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:59, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- ALT2 also, and moved comment in chronology, because who will study timestamps. - I'd prefer ALT1 though, especially in case the picture which hints at African culture might not be taken. The name doesn't clearly tell the racism background of the harassment. We could perhaps have both? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:33, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Possible ALT3: ... that a public sculpture in Leeds, Hibiscus Rising (pictured), commemorates the life and death of David Oluwale, a homeless black man whose 1969 drowning was attributed to police harassment?
[or] ... that a public sculpture in Leeds, Hibiscus Rising (pictured), commemorates the life and death of David Oluwale, a homeless black man whose 1969 drowning resulted from police harassment?
-- Cl3phact0 (talk) 20:29, 21 March 2024 (UTC)- Thank you for offering! I'd like to hear Lajmmoore. I like the life aspect, but think the enormous height stands for importance. - I was involved in an article for a German, de:Harry von de Gass, not immediately recognized as notable and up for deletion, but kept arguing that if he got a bronze sculpture that size he was important. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:54, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- ALT4 ... that a 9-metre-tall (30 ft) artwork in Leeds, Hibiscus Rising (pictured), remembers David Oluwale, a Nigerian man who drowned in 1969 after police harassment?
- ALT4 is 200 characters but depends on a pagemove from Death of David Oluwale to David Oluwale. I think it combines most things apart from homlessness Lajmmoore (talk) 07:47, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- I count 125 "prose characters" in ALT4 (see WP:DYK200). Unless I'm misreading the 200 character guidance, this version seems to be ok as is. (Also, David Oluwale already redirects to "Death of David Oluwale", so I think we can decouple the pagemove from this DYK submission. Two separate matters.) -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 08:17, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- ALT4, preferred. Thank you, both. I made the pipe without further fuss, because redirects are fine but not allowed on the Main page. The hook is short enough, the DYK checker says 163 prose chars. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:57, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

@Gerda Arendt, Lajmmoore, and Cl3phact0: the image has been tagged as missing copyright information; if that issue is resolved, why not use an image which shows the sculpture clearly, rather than behind a crowd of people? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:04, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- The sculpture is amazing. I like the cropped image: File:Hibiscus Rising sculpture by Yinka Shonibare. LEEDS 2023 (cropped).jpg The copyright info credits photographer David Lindsay on behalf of LEEDS 2023 Would this work? Rjjiii (talk) 14:38, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

- Gerda Arendt, Rjjiii hello, this new image is an extract from one that is flagged - I hope the flag will be removed this week, as I filled in some missing details a couple of days ago. I'll ping as soon as the original image is OK'd. When I made the nomination, the image wasn't flagged. Many thanks all Lajmmoore (talk) 08:11, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Lajmmoore, I believe you have misunderstood why the images have been flagged. Many countries do not have freedom of panorama for sculptures; adding c:Template:FoP-UK to the image licenses will, I think, solve the problem. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:48, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- AirshipJungleman29, this is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much! Lajmmoore (talk) 14:57, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
