ALT ... that the coon songs of African American vaudeville performer, Irving Sayles elicited multiple encores in Australia?

If we wanted, we could be specific and use Hobart as the place for the encores, which is supported by the citation. I think African American is a good addition but am partial to the 'vaudevillian' wording. How about something like:

ALT2 ... that the coon songs of African American vaudevillian Irving Sayles elicited multiple encores in Tasmania?

Alt2 is fine but I would probably retain Australia rather than Tasmania (Tasmania being a state of Australia) as it is more recognisable. Dan arndt (talk) 07:15, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

The term coon songs is provocative; I would temper it:

• For Alt3 since I agree that Australia will be more recognizable than Tasmania. I don't know if adding "racist" actually tempers the use of "coon song" since racist is a loaded phrase in and of itself. However its presence coupled with the description of Sayles as African-American certainly heightens the "punchiness" of the hook. I'll leave it to the DYK promoter to decide whether or not to keep the "racist" adjective because the hook/article can be promoted without it too. Did some slight tweaking to add section headings to the article so it looked less like a macro-stub. Date and size verified and passes DYK criteria for referencing with additional inline added to address previous concerns. No signs of plagiarism or close paraphrasing. Doh! I missed that it was linked in Alt3. I went ahead and unlinked it from the hook since I personally don't think it is needed (the fewer wiki-links, the better) and noted that in the original hook it wasn't linked. Agne^Cheese/^Wine 01:57, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

As the original reviewer (and the one who suggested ALT2) don't see a problem with de-linking 'encore' (agree, that we should try not to over wiki-link) and I don't think the term 'racist' adds anything to the DYK. Dan arndt (talk) 03:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
